Hello everyone, I was under the impression that you can't apply for a social security card until you get your EAD or green card. I've seen a few posts of people getting it before those are received, what kind of documentation do you bring to the SSA office when applying before getting your EAD? Would it be the I-94?

Thanks in advance!

I didn't have to go through that myself as I was a j1 visa holder. My understanding is that you will get a SS number and card, but it will state that it is not valid for employment. You will need to get it modified once you get married (for name change) and/or when you get your work authorization.

I am under the impression that the advantage is to be able to actually get a driver license as it is required in some states and open a bank account, but I could be wrong.

Its easy she needs to call psa and tell her situation. Filipino most of the time has same name and surname but middle name. Call the manager/supervisor and they will ask her mother's maiden name and some other info about her trust me they wont apologize but they will send the right cenomar. Another thing let her offer another mailing fee once she called for faster transaction. Its not a first case

What is psa come to find out her yong sis used her name  I don't think she's going to call anyway so it seems that our journey is over because she don't want to get her sisters in trouble

Philippine statistic authority

so her case is not a normal case quiet unfair on your side since from the begining she knew about it. And sorry to tell you but its uncommon for filipino to use sibling's name for marriage if you know what i mean. Being judgemental here i think she is married already because the us embassy will never tell her if her cenomar has wrong bday or whatever.

Thank you for the info! I read wrong on the social security website and thought you can only get it for work purposes.

So we are on Administrative Processing since her approved interview...Go figure nothing easy for us LOL

She has gotten no calls or emails requesting more info so we are pretty sure we know the issue

Every step of the way her daughters medical has been the hold up. Kinda amazing as her daughter passed and Juvy had to do the Sputum culture test.

She was told after passing her interview they await her daughters medical. USEM even called for it to St Luke's LOL.  Juvy called a few days ago and St Luke's  said they sent the results on the 5th....well her interview was the 11th so we know we have a issue as USEM did not have it. gonna wait a few days then she will ask St Luke's to resend.

Time and effort my friends...OMG so long we wait hahaha....everything happens for a reason I guess

I am sorry to hear that. That would add another week/s of waiting. I got 221g too because of the NBI non-inclusion of aka of my fiancee. It took more than a week in AP status before the visa was issued. Another week from embassy (after the Issued status) to courier and 2 days more to receive your stamped visa passport from the courier. Hang on there!

Many years back I knew some people used name of their relative/s to enter Japan as a worker. Especially if they are below 18. Yes, it happened before. I am sorry to tell but that might mess up your future plan. I agree, if you will just stay here in the Phils and get married, it is unusual to use your sister's name even if you are minor (parents can always sign a permit for you to get married). If the sister went abroad using her name and got married...I think that will end your plan since you cannot jeopardize your sister's situation. To correct these mess and clear your name, it might be a long battle to the court and will lead to your sister's violation to the law by falsifaction of documents. Very serious matter.
