You do not have to wait for packet 3 to arrive in the mail. You can find the packet 3 for Montreal online. That way you can get everything ready already as well as actually send packet 3 as soon as your case says ready.

Hmmm I thought so. I would assume that the case would have to say ready on the CEAC website. However, my issue is that I have a case number but when I search for it on the CEAC site it isn't available. So I can't check it if it's ready. Is that normal?

Did you check on the immigrant visa website? if you did that (and not nonimmigrant) it should be available soon :)

As @Foxrup said, you need to check non-immigrant, otherwise it will not show up. You have not been the first person to say such thing. I do not know what to do. If it was me, I would wait a few days and try calling the NVC again.

When NVC sent us our case number via email, it also instructed us to fill DS-160 nonimmigrant visa. So I was able to do that and I have received an application ID for it. But when I search either the casenumber or the application ID, on both the nonimmigrant and immigrant visa options, it either shows as an invalid number or no status.

you wont get any update on the case number if the case is still at NVC. give it 4 or 5 days from when you got the case number and then u should start seeing the status updates. (you can also call to ask whether your case left the nvc if you want as well)

My fiancee is in a similar situation, except he has a burn and only one on his arm and it was last year before we both discovered the K1 process. We didn't yet meet each other then but have been together for almost a year, and as dumb as it sounds, none of us thought of this. It made him sad that we weren't able to be with eachother and none of us had any kind of funds for visiting right away. He ended up burning himself, and I discovered it. Shortly after that happened the stress of not knowing how we were going to make an international relationship work motivated the both of us and that's when we learned about the process and researched it a little bit. It changed his frame of mind and gave him and I both the ability to see ourselves together, but first we had to meet so we made it happen by saving up the money. We started the K1 this March. (Sorry guys, March filer creeping on you!) I'm not sure what will happen. It's the letter M on his arm. He's gonna be honest and tell them if they ask. Do they make everyone get psych evaluations, and would they give him one for one burn? It's not too dark but it's also not too light. You can notice it if you are checking his arm. I never thought about this until reading this forum and seen your post so now I am concerned myself.

If it isn't too noticeable, maybe they won't make him go to psych eval. There isn't much info about it, though, that's why I have been so stressed. I tried searching for threads online but only found a few, and they aren't very helpful.

All I know is that the doctor will check your wrists for marks (heroine)/scars (cuts). If you have them, you get sent to psych eval. I have read someone say that she wasn't scheduled for pysch eval, but this woman only has one very light scar. So yeah, I guess it's up to the doctor. I should be more worried than you since I have about 10 VERY visible cuts on my wrists, and I have my nickname "carved" on my hand as well. :P I will let you know what happens, though, since I will be doing the medical soon. Wish me luck!

But yeah, the best thing to do is to just tell the truth and not say things that will make them think you're unstable, I guess. I can't wait to get this over with! Haha

I'm on the same boat. I called twice and the first woman I spoke to was very curt and unhelpful. I called back the next day and a more friendly associate told me that we'd have to wait for the NVC to process our petition and that we'd have to prepare for the next six steps. When I spoke to my lawyer today, she said that the nvc should be sending the petition directly to the embassy and that the nvc doesn't deal with the fiancé visas the same way they do the others. She added that the next step would be to file the ds160 and the i134 and wait for the embassy to contact us. Can anyone shed some light as to whether these six steps theough nvc are a part of the process or not?

The information your lawyer provided you with is accurate. More people asked around here about the six steps thing and the conclusion is that's something to be ignored for K1 visas, as it seems to refer to immigrant petitions. (K1 is non immigrant with immigrant intent).

My consulate might be Montreal as well. How did you pick an appointment and how can I gather info on what to take with me?

Have you received your noa2?

if so then you should start to look at this https://ca.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/2016/07/Packet3Instructions-IV.pdf this link is packet 3. You will receive this from the embassy in the mail  once the nvc sends the approved petition to them. This link and intructions are specifically for Montreal. Even though the beneficary will get this by mail you can print this off and start gathering all the documents listed and fill out the ds-160 online. Once you've gathered everything on the list follow the instructions to email them the completed checklist, confirmation of completed ds-160 and the scanned coloured copy of your passport bio page (the page with your info and picture) to the specified email address they've provided. Once that is complete you wait approx 7 business days and they should email you back with packet 4 instructing you how to pay the fee schedule your medical exam and schedule your interview. You must schedule your interview before your medical. The website they give you to schedule your appointment will also have the options to pay the $265 USD online. Make sure to print off the receipt. Then you pick from the dates and times they have available :)  I hope this helps!!  Let me know if you have more questions!

dbmathis here.

Today was root canal day for me. I had a run in with a crappy dentist three weeks ago, who sent me to the ER after drilling into my sinus and pouring bleach into it. Today I had a specialist go in and fix all that damage, so I was extremely nervous and scared about today. However, I woke up and checked the informed delivery and there it was. The golden Wonka wrapper, the USCIS letter.

I didn't tell my fiancee because 1) until I opened that letter it could have been and RFE and 2) I wanted to record a video of me opening the letter so that she and I could get the good news at the same time.

I sat through the 1.5-hour root canal cleanup job, staggered out of there and headed toward home toward that mailbox. About 5 minutes from the house I started recording a video and talking like nothing was up. Then as I pulled into home, I changed my tone to be much more excited and told her that I hope to have a surprise for her. I walked to the mailbox, pulled out the letter so that the camera could see it, walked to the car and got in, took a deep breath and NOA2!!!! :D:D

Received: Jan 31

NOA1: Feb 2

NOA2: June 7

Please hang in there everyone who is still waiting. I know how hard it is, but the good news is on the way. I have said it before, and I will say it again, you all are the strongest and greatest people I know.

My friend, how exciting after the long wait. I keep coming back to VisaJourney to check on my friends and watch to see if any movement had happen on your case. Ysa and I both were so happy to see this post! Once again CONGRATS!!!!

Did the petitioner get anything from the NVC at all?? I'm worried because I moved so not sure if I will get my mail from the embassy (although I know if I ever get my NVC case number, I won't need it and can submit packet 3 on my own).

Thanks! How is your journey?

I have not been posting as much as things at work got a bit crazy, a senior graduating high school, and getting all the documents for the Affidavit of Support.

My lady is hopefully going to get her Medical done in a day or two. Philippine does not make this easy for document gathering so she had to take a few days off to get them There are times I place American ideals on crazy systems I don't understand (like getting a medical record or even new passport pics).  LOL. It is my version of culture shock!

We are super close though. Yay. We have our interview date set for July 17, so that will be the next phase we have to wait for. There were many dates before our date, so if you are Filipino and reading this, don't be discouraged by our late date. We chose that for other reasons.
