For the sake of my sanity, I need to clarify a few questions.

I contacted the NVC and got our case number. Then my fiancé went to fill out her DS 160. But at no time did It ask for this case number. So what's the point of getting the case number?

After filling out the DS 160 the status just said "no status". I'm assuming that in a day or so that will change?

Hey, we both have the same exact dates for our RFE timeline and we're also from the same country but my case status still says 'received' may 12th. For every German it took from 3 days to 10 to get their NOA 2 so I feel like they already made a decision.

We called the number you posted here but my fiancé couldn't get through? Is there another trick or should just keep calling?

My only tip would be to press nothing when you call. That way they presume you can't figure it out, and should send you through to someone.

My fiancé tried everything, pressing wrong buttons and nothing at all and he didn't got through. And I feel like we should have got our approval already .. :(

I'd like to say THANK YOU for sharing this information.

We were waiting for an update after sending USCIS our RFE a couple weeks ago, and despite having nothing in the mail or any updates online, my partner just received a call back and was informed that our case has been approved since May 19th and our NOA-2 is in the mail!

We wouldn't have even considered calling if you hadn't posted, so congratulations to you but more importantly thank you for sharing!

For others who have had bad experience calling, perhaps it's just bad luck...but the agent was super helpful, polite, and courteous! Stay positive, stay friendly, and keep trying! ❤

I called USCIS last night hoping to get the same result as you about our RFE, but no luck.  They said our case is still being processed, blah blah blah.....

It was my first time ever calling so I was just being polite and playing dumb knowing that they have no clue. I did find it weird that the agent asked me if I had ever called before.

Anyway here is to hoping we receive the NOA2 ASAP!

  • 01/24/17 --- NOA1 date
  • 05/03/17 --- RFE notification received
  • 05/10/17 --- RFE response sent
  • 05/12/17 --- RFE response received
  • 05/24/17 --- NOA2
  • 06/22/17 --- NVC case number received
  • 06/26/17 --- Package received at RDJ embassy
  • 07/18/17 --- Interview (APPROVED!)
  • 08/05/17 --- Arrival to Minneapolis, MN
  • 09/30/17 --- Married!

The case number isn't needed for DS-160.  The Case Number is needed for Medical, Interview, Biometrics, Payment, tracking, etc.

Which means calling early for the case number is kinda pointless outside of being able to track the petition to the Embassy and knowing when it arrives.  You can't really do anything till the beneficiary receives the packet 3/4.  Which will include Case Number anyways.

Well , i know Alien number is Green Card number, I dont use green card because I filed my petition for my fiancee as a Citizen of US. So instead of Alien number, i got my Naturalization number, which is not a problem.

So.. anyone with experience sending their documents to their embassy as soon as their case says ready, even if they haven't received packet 3? I've seen it discussed on VJ over the months but I'm curious to see how people view the process currently. In theory it has to have been received and processed by your embassy to show ready, so why wait for the mail?

I sent everything with my application when I filed , so all I have to do is set my appointment, does anyone know if I could set the appointment even if I have the case and invoice number? Or do I have to wait for it to say read ?🤔

Some Embassies require you to send in a checklist or other misc stuff before setting up an interview.  Things not sent in the original application.

The best place to find an answer is your country portal.  If not, just wait for instructions.
