Is it worth to get the EAD?

I've heard that it can take 4 months to get the EAD (thought it seems less from what I've seen on timelines). Is it worth it to apply for it now or wait for the green card?

It seems most of you apply for the EAD at the same time that you do the AOS. What's your advice for us?

My fiance is anxious to work, but would we just be wasting money?

11/2004 - Met in Brazil

09/2006 - Apply for K1

03/2007 - K1 approved

04/2007 - Apply for AOS & EAD

07/2007 - EAD approved

01/2008 - Conditional Residency approved

11/2009 - Apply to remove conditions

02/2010 - Permanent Residency approved

11/2010 - Apply for Citizenship

03/2011 - Citizenship approved

07/2011 - Moved back to Brazil

Yes, it's worth applying for. You never know how long your green card may take. I strongly recommend applying for an EAD, especially if your fiance can't wait to start working.

I guess I was hoping for that answer - I was thinking that the green card may take longer than we hope anyway. One never knows, right?

I'd love to stay at home all day and relax :dance: , but my fiance is ready to get out of the house and work - not be dependent on me.

I printed out the EAD application today so I'll complete it and we'll mail it as soon as we marry.

The worst that can happen is that they get approved at the same time and you waste $180, BUT in the long run, and IF the AOS is delayed, that $180 will have been well spent!

Jul 5 - Receipt date for I-130 petition for my over 21 brother and his wife (both in the UK)

2024

Feb 23 - Sent USCIS a message asking for a processing update

May 6 - Received an email response saying things were progressing normally but that waiting times might be longer

2014

Feb 25, 26 & 28 - got emails saying that the cases had been transferred to another office, then to my local office, and then just transferred and are being processed

Mar 17 - got email, attached to one case number only, saying that my A number was changed relating to the I-130 filing

Mar 20 - N-400 receipt date for my father
2021
Apr 21 - Biometrics appt.

May 2 - Interview

May 20 - Naturalization ceremony

Good to know rebeccajo. It's not that $180 is too much money, but I don't want to spend what I don't need to. However, I'm going to go for it - I believe you're all right and it's better to be safe than sorry.

Also, I know my fiance would feel better - thanks!
