Hey guys. Who among you here had been on a 221g and the passport was returned? Im just wondering why they returned mine during the interview but for others they did not. I remember the consul said my visa would be on hold until i pass my sons crba but im still worried. This is what they emailed me. Do you think my passport being returned means something else? :(

we just got the crba last dec 2.

Sometimes they will give it back if they think that it will take a while for the applicant to supply the requested documents...or if they think the passport might be needed in attaining the requested documents. After all it can be quite inconvenient to be without a passport for a longer time and it might be needed as an ID.

Sometimes it's simply different procedures at different consulates.

If nothing else is said, that's all they want so don't worry :)

Not a good sign if they returned your passport.

Based on what? He was given a 221g to supply documents... It's not AP or denied. I see no reason for it being "not a good sign" whatsoever.

They don't usually give back passports unless it not approved.  It almost takes an act of congress to get them back once turned over.

This is just not true. Plenty of ppl are given back their passport and later approved. Again, they got a 221g with specific instructions on a missing document. There is NO reason to believe anything else than this is what they want for approval and no reason to scare OP with no basis.

This is very true.  I am talking about US embassy in Manila.   They don't return passport unless you request it, and it still difficult to get.

How many interviews have you had in Manila?

Of course I've had none and although I can't see your timeline I'm guessing you can't have had more than one?

Irregardless of embassy, it is clearly stated what the OP needs to do to comply. It would be one thing if given a 221g with AP. That's not the case. There is no need to speculate about anything that the OP has not been told about. He can simply return the passport to them when he has the documents. I asked you if there was a basis for your claim and so far you have given none other than speculation. Until told otherwise the simple act of returning his passport awaiting documents, means nothing other than the embassy awaiting documents.

I have been on AP in manila, I am fairly familiar with process in Manila.  They don't return passports as a rule while you are on AP.  Usually when a passport is given back it is a sign of denial.

Agree to disagree. Each case is different regardless of embassy. I'm sure sometimes they DO give back passport for AP and sometimes not. Just as in the case of 221g. That they didn't for you doesn't mean that the embassy doesn't. That's quite the extrapolation. On what are you basing this "rule". You would need quite the data set for this claim.

Again, we'll have to agree to disagree.

We can agree you have no clue on the Embassy in Manila. We can agree I do
