It is pinned, so I think it translates into being pinned in a yard and struggling to break free of the pins. Dunno, Im guessin'.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Yardie

is a term stemming from the slang name given to occupants of government yards in Trenchtown, a neighborhood in West Kingston, Jamaica.

Trenchtown was originally built as a housing project following devastation caused by Hurricane Charlie. Each development was built around a central courtyard with communal cooking facilities. Due to the poverty endemic in the neighbourhood, crime and gang violence became rife, leading the occupants of Trenchtown to be in part stigmatized by the term "Yardie".

Yardies is the term applied to Jamaican-born gangsters operating in Britain with

a reputation for ruthless violence that rivals the Triads or Mafia.

Members are mostly linked to drug and arms dealing as well as robbery. Impulse

shootings and gangland-style executions are used to sort out internal squabbles.

The Metropolitan Police do not formally acknowledge the existence of Yardie gangs.

One reason for the police's reluctance to pigeonhole Yardies in the manner of other

organised crime groups could be their lack of organisation.

There is no central control or brotherhood structure, so Yardies have few affiliations

or loyalties. Gangs are very loose knit and often fall out with each other.

Despite their lack of discipline, the "here today, gone tomorrow" culture is a major

obstacle to police efforts to infiltrate the fraternity. Added to this is the climate of

fear that pervades any culture of organised crime.

The cycle of violence is such that a Yardie never stays on top very long. The average

life expectancy for a Yardie is 35.

On a related note - did the Met ever solve the mystery of that child's dismembered body that was dragged out of the Thames a few years ago? There were reports that the kid had been used in some sort of ritual murder, but I never caught the resolution of that story. Chilling...

Dumb question, I know.

And what does a farrin mean?

Yardie=Jamaican

'A farrin'=abroad

Nope, I don't think they did. They managed to pin point where he came from - somewhere in Africa I think - but they never found out exactly who he was. They think he came over illegally, hence they have been unable to trace him.

Its creepy that in some part of London creepy black magic stuff was/is going on in some grotty apartment somewhere. Gangland killings you might expect - but that case was plain weird.

Belwin Mills is correct.

In Jamaica, "yardie" is a very common slang term for any person from Jamaica -- "from yard" -- it does not necessarily indicate a gangsta or criminal.

Perhaps it England it has attained a more sinister nuance... not sure about that.... but I think this thread is asking about the meaning in context of the long-running thread in the regional forum....
