Parking lot around the embassy?

Among the few that were living in Montreal itself, did you go to the embassy by car?

Ok I might sound stupid compare to everyone that has to deal with planes and trains to get here, but I dunno if I should take the bus or my car...

I'm afraid I wont find a place to park and freak out right before the interview...but I dont want to go take the bus without my purse either!

I know i just live 20 min away from the embassy with the bus, would probably be easy, but then no cell phone to call my fiance once im out of there.

Dunno...

Im not familiar with Montreal at ALL so you may know the neighborhoods better.........at the very least by reputation. BUT for some reason I have stuck in my memory that the area isnt very good and people have reported having their vehicles broken into. You might find some testimonials in the reviews.

Hey Mephys,

Can you simply take a cab/taxi ? Have some cash on you to pay him/her to and from .. and bring only your essentials..... when it's done .. grab a cab straight back home and call your FI.

Just a thought...

good luck to you btw!!!

Although there is a parking lot near the consulate however I think it would be more useful if your interview was in the morning. If you live just 20 minutes bus trip away I would thinkd youd be more mentally at ease during the wait time/interview. For the cell phone you can probably find a in the shopping district which is just 2 minutes walk from the consulate. Goodluck.

Oh you know....just being a kid. i want to call my fiance right away after !!

But yeah its gonna be either the bus or the taxi cab. Just figured I could save myself 20$ by taking the bus....and taxi cab stinks. No offense if anyone is driving a cab for a living, but i havent had an enjoyable experience so far

yeah i should take the bus.....If my fiance could come at the interview I'd so just rent a room to be 2 min away from the embassy, but me alone in an hotel room without my webcam to talk to him....id rather take the bus!

You know, I read in the reviews a while back (ok.. a long long while - like October 06) about a couple who parked a block or so away. You may want to check out the reviews.

I'm sure you could also park at the hotel we stayed at (Tour Centre Ville - across the street from Consulate -(514) 866-8861). They charged me about $16 a day to park if I remember correctly - so not cheap, but hey - you pay for convenience, right? It's underground parking, so I'd also feel safe hiding my cell phone etc. under the seat.

I found downtown Montreal easier to access by Metro and foot (I didn't even use a rental car) for my GC interview in 1999.

So, you can leave the car (if you have a rental, or drove your own in) at the hotel, and simply use subway and walking to get to the Consulate.

I do recall metered parking in the area and I do recall of another VJ'er that had their car broken into!! Not sure if it happned overnight!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hey! My suggestion is to mapquest the consulate - and then look at Arial View. There is parking right up from the Consulate on Rue St. Alexandre- we parked further away, but we saw it on the walk down. Mapquest might give you more ideas!! Good luck!!!
