I did a writeup in a couple of different posts - see above...  Interview went well, oath set for Jan 11...  In and out of the local office in under 30 minutes total, including security, registration, interview...

And that's that - 38 new citizens today from 27 different countries at the Rochester NY Federal Courthouse, myself included.

 

Good luck, and I'll keep an eye on what's happening...  Only a few of this group that appear to be still waiting, at least it appears like there are fewer waiting than the list would indicate.  I suspect a number who forgot to update anything - though we do know that there are still some who wait - patiently or not..  Hope everybody's journey through this gets a happy ending and sooner rather than later.

Is it safe to assume the congressman letter helped in any way to expedite the interview process? 

 

Can you point me in the right direction on how to do the same thing myself? Where can I look up who my local congressman is and how to contact them? Do you have a template of the letter you send to your local congressman? Did you send them a hard copy letter via regular mail or just an email?

If you go to your senator's web page (search for them by name on Google, for instance) they will usually have pages there that are used for requesting assistance.  In the ones that I have seen, they all have a section specifically for immigration related ones, where you fill in a form with details of what you are seeking help with.  You'll then have to print out something that they provide giving them partial power of attorney to ask for information on your behalf, and send them that and other supporting documentation.

 

Who are your senators?

Hi OT,

I'm sorry for delay respond. I was traveling with my friends and did not check notifications.

You can send a request to any representative I think. I had few either but decided to call to Morgan Griffith office just because I have heard his name somehow before... 

So, I called to his office, explained the situation... in 2 days I received a form from his office that I filled up and return. That was basically a form that states that I let congressman make inquires to USCIS in my behalf...

In about 3 weeks after that I received basic copy/paste respond from USCIS to congressman... something like they balance inconvenience of one person against national security or so...

But a bit over a month interview was scheduled...

So, I can't tell exactly if it was a coincidence or the inquiry worked out... 

But always worth to try...

Do some research on each and see who is the most "immigrant friendly" and contact them.  Though they each should help you accordingly, each has their own agenda which may affect their interest in helping out....

 

Unfortunately, you do need to stick with your own state senator as oppose to some of the friendlier types - I could have gone with either Schumer or Gillibrand had I needed that avenue.  I would recommend looking at their pages regardless (schumer.senate.gov / gillibrand.senate.goc) to get an idea of what they need - it should be essentially the same as what Cornyn or Cruz need, though their pages are not as informative on the subject.

 

Also unfortunate is that at this moment you can't reach out to any of them until the government is re-opened.

Thanks all for the help and insights on contacting the Senator. Already sent him the letter, privacy release form and 1-797. Will update here once I hear back from them.

Finished my interview this morning, it went well.  The IO seemed to have studied already my application because she's very familiar with my files from the very beginning how I entered in the US.  Very respectful and I felt at ease.  IO went over my application to review my filled-up answers and verify it with me.  Then, proceeded to the tests.

 

First part was reading and written test.  IO asked me to read what was written:  "Who lives in the White House?".  Then asked to write the answer:  "The President lives in the White House."

 

Second part was the civic test, 6 questions:

 

  1.  Name 2 National US Holidays?   

     My answers:  Independence Day,  Thanksgiving

 

  2.  Where is the Statue of Liberty?

      My Answer:  Liberty Island

 

  3.  What movement tried to end racial discrimination:

      Answer:  Civil rights movement

 

  4.  What is one promise you make when you become a United States citizen?

      My Answer:  Obey the laws of the United States

 

  5.  Who is the Governor of  ?

     My Answer: J.... etc. (governor of your state)

 

  6.   Who was the first President?

     Answer:  George Washington

 

After the civics test, IO handed me the printed information that will appear in the Naturalization Certificate (according to her), to make sure the information is all correct.  She then gave me the recommendation approval letter & told me to wait for a few weeks for the Oath letter schedule.  I thanked the IO and she congratulated me.

 

Thanked God, this is almost over.

 

To those who are still waiting for the interview letter, I hope you guys will receive it soon.  I understand the wait is very agonizing and depressing but sooner or later you will get there.  

 

As for Deribas_Alma-Ata ,   I wish you "Good luck"  in your upcoming interview.   All the best for you.
