Seriously?! That is shocking! I requested mine at the neighboring Chiba Prefectural Police and they accommodated me really well. They just asked me to sign this certain file which states that both documents I requested will go to the NVC and the other to the US embassy. Maybe the Tokyo Police has had to deal with too much #@$% in the past that they had to tighten their rules, making things harder even for the rule-abiding ones like your wife. What a horrible thing for her to go through--so sorry! Hope you guys get your CC soon!

Thank you and I hope your CC comes soon as well.

Well, I received this morning a check list requesting documents were already submitted. The REF didn't request all document to say it's a generic REF. NVC requested the following:

1- Join Sponsor valid Passport copy which was already submitted and Scan date was December 9th

2- Join Sponsor W2 for 2015 copy which also was submitted and scan date was December 9th

I'm not sure now what to send them since both requested documents were already submitted. I will call NVC the second they open and I will find out more about it. Hopefully they realize their mistake without delaying the case any longer.

Ok I read the REF allover again. See below what they sent:

We reviewed your I-864, I-864EZ, I-864W or I-864A Affidavit of Support form and supporting financial documents. While we will schedule your case for an interview, either your Affidavit of Support was incomplete, some of your supporting documents were missing, or both. This could affect the Consular Officer's ability to make a decision on your case.

On the attached Affidavit of Support Assessment Letter, we have put an "X" by each item you need to correct. Go to the Department of State's website at http://nvc.state.gov/aos and follow the instructions for the Affidavit of Support form(s).

If your Affidavit of Support form(s) needs correction:

  • Fill out a new form(s) online.
  • Print, sign and send the original form(s) to the principal applicant so he or she can take them to the visa interview. Do not send the updated form(s) to the NVC.

If we are missing required supporting documents:

  • Send the missing documents to the principal applicant so he or she can take them to the visa interview. Do not send the documents to the NVC.

Based on the above, I assume the case is closed and technically they don't need me to send anything to NVC again. However, when I checked my case online I didn't see 3 N/A.....Please someone tell me that the 3 N/A doesn't apply to IR1

We finally got our interview date for February 10th.

We discovered that we have to register our interview appointment date. Also we have to go to the  ASC ? Busy week, that week scheduling the medical exam , ASC appointment, and then the interview appointment.

Any tips for handling all this in Bogota will be very well appreciated.

My mom will have to go to Bogota as well for her interview. My understanding is that you will need to register your appt online as soon as you get the date, also call right away to schedule the medical exam. I've heard you should go to Bogota 5 days prior to get it all done prior to the interview. When to was your case complete? and when did you get your Interview date? Good luck!

I just called NVC and they said the case is not completed because they're missing a copy of the passport. She put my case for a supervisor review and that could take up to 6 weeks. I explained to her that a copy of the passport was already received so I don't understand why they're asking for it again. She told me either put it for a supervisor review or send the passport copy again. Do they usually lose documents in NVC? Is it really going to take another 6 weeks??

Did you not include pages 10-12 or did you leave them blank?

Call and demand to speak with a supervisor.  I got a checklist for divorce decree which we had already sent.  I called 3-4 times a day to try to speak with a supervisor and requested one to call me back.  It took about a week, but once I spoke with a supervisor we had case complete the next day.  It's crazy to wait 6 weeks for something that they already have.

What was your checklist for?

2 items:

1. Birth Certificate for my wife.  I don't know what the problem is.  It was translated and notarized....

2.  Divorce degree for my wife.  In Taiwan, divorces are not always handled by courts.  A couple simply writes the agreement on a paper after signing it along with witnesses.  Then the paper is submitted to the Household Registration Office for her district.  The Household Registration Office then records the divorce. We sent a copy of the official Household Registration document (provided by them) which clearly shows my wife was legally and officially divorced.

My attorney sent both those documents to NVC.

I'm now waiting to see how my attorney is going to fix this.

How long will this delay our case?  Another 8 weeks???

I had an issue with my husbands UK birth certificate as well. The NVC requires a long form birth certificate which is not a standard issue for births in the UK. Originally sent in what he was given to him at birth but was later notified that we had to request the correct format form the UK registrars office. Maybe you have a similar issue?

Yes.  I received an email from NVC.......It was sent to my attorney, my wife and me.

I am so depressed about it.   Hopefully, my attorney can talk to NVC...
