Hello everyone! First time commenting here. Got CC on January 24th ?I was trying to find a forum that talks about the medical examination experience. What people had to pay for, which shots they were advice to get, how much do you spend on average; that kind of things. Anyone knows about a forum that talks about that? If not can any of you share some of your experiences with the medical? I will be forever grateful. Thanks and hopefully your interviews go good so you can finbe reunited with your loved ones ?

Welcome, fatima_g!

The medical exam is very country-specific - and sometimes even city-specific.  If there is a forum for El Salvadorans, you will get more pertinent advice there.  What happens in one country is not always germane to your country.

Best of luck finding some El Salvadorans who have gone through the process!

Thanks Susie, I know! So far I have only seen 1 active Salvadoran besides me on a forum. That's why I chose to ask in general. I know prices will definitely vary but at the end of the day we're all going to the same country and will have to cover the same requirements to enter.

I read a blog of someone who immigrated a while back (from the Philippines) and since she didn't have record for her vaccinations (which is my case) she was asked to show marks on her body that proves she got the vaccines or scars she had left behind from when she got chicken pox. Since she didn't have any marks or scars the dr decided she needed to get the shot. Experiences like this would be very helpful, just to have an idea of what kind of shots I might be forced to get.

The page for the us embassy in my country says in average how much you could spend on the medical but they also put the prices of the vaccinations and if I add all the ones that the CDC list says are required for immigrants I get a very big number! Bigger than the one the us embassy website suggests. That's why I wanted to hear other people's experiences. If you guys don't mind sharing some details like these ones I would be forever grateful. I know price will definitely vary

That's very odd she was asked to show marks on her body from vaccines. No one should have any scars or marks from injections... with the exception of the BCG jab. You can have a blood test that will give them information about your antibodies which will reveal your immunities. The clinic should be able to do that if you're unable to get it done elsewhere before your medical. They will charge you a little extra, but I wouldn't know how much in your country. As @Sukie said, prices are very different dependant on the country and the healthcare available to you - apart from the flu shot, all of mine were free because I chose to have them done at my own doctors surgery under the UK National Health Service.

You can have your vaccines in the USA if you are in the USA if you go to a government clinic they put it  for free sometimes then you bringing it to your medal doctor at your country were you are going to have you medical exam.... I think is better than paid to much money in your country...

@Li&Kyle  https://immimom.wordpress.com/2014/08/26/slec-medical-exam/ this is the link of the vlog, I'm aware it was a while ago but looking online it was really the only experience I could find. I think she was referring to scars from when she got the chicken pox. My husband has one next to his eye.

@TsLifetime I was also thinking why don't I just go to my local public clinic to get it free. Well, I went once and I was as only able to get the tetanus shot as that was the only vaccine they had. As well, I was told that when you take paperwork of a public clinic they still make you get the shots with them. So I figured why go again if they will make me get it again. I was thinking about calling the Drs clinic and ask them all this questions but I guess I'm traumatized with the NVC never giving us any information that I feel the dr's clinic will do the same.

She definitely says, "scars of the shots on my arms" . That really is a very bizarre ask, and not at all a credible method of gauging whether someone as had a particular injection, or injections. Also, from my own experience, I didn't have to prove I'd had chickenpox. Anyway, more importantly, if you are unsure of your immunisation history you should definitely get a blood test.

Also, there's no need to worry about the clinic being unhelpful. They have nothing to do with the NVC and should answer any questions you have if you call them. FYI, I got the extra vaccinations I needed AFTER my medical examination. The clinic provided me with a letter to give to my own doctor explaining the situation and what vaccinations I needed.

Yes I was told they would start scheduling next week as well. Hopefully I can get an interview scheduled soon. Been waiting since CC on December 28, 2016. Hoping for a early March interview.

Have you checked the timelines for others who recently interviewed at your embassy?  That would give you a good indication as to how long they are taking to schedule interviews at your embassy.

@Duncan21 Yeah most of them have been scheduled within two months. Mine seems to be taking a bit longer unfortunately. I should of been scheduled a February Interview. Hoping for 1st week of March.

@aditi2016 I suspect it was delayed since your CC was at the end of the month. and they need atleast a week before they start scheduling. I don't know for sure 100%. THey could've been done scheduling on the First Monday of January and last Monday of December. hmmm
