I have been to many of the places pictured. Careful. There are a couple pictures of the outside of body bags. No bodies though.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

WOW. Amazing how the country has been able to rebuild so much in such a short period of time.

On the other hand, I saw an interview of some village fishermen (not sure where in Thailand) whose lives have been completely devastated - literally. They are very angry at the local gov which took over their land and property after the tsunami, but powerless.... They not only lost their loved ones, friends and family members, but also lost their livelyhood and way of life. Very sad.

Beautiful country though. I would love to visit one day in the near future :star:

Sometimes I think I know everything, and I regain consciousness. Seen it all, done it all, forgot most of it....

So much plenitude, yet so much emptiness

wow, those are amazing. I certainly commend them for rebuilding so quickly and trying to regain some normalacy in their lives. I wonder, like Gimy, how 'normal' most of them really feel though. :( M.

That was really excellent. I think it's important to showcase this, because for me, it's such a reminder of what could happen, and how lucky I am to have what I have, and how lucky I am that Ben and I weren't there at the time. Because had Ben been swept away and killed, and never ever found, I think the grief would have been unpronouncable.

It could have happened to any one of us - nature is nature, and devastating as it may be, that's the way the world turns. But at the same time, the huge loss of life that day and in subsequent days came off the surface of the planet like it had been hewn off, and I would bet that I wasn't the only one who felt a huge disturbance in the life force when this took place.

I am so glad that the rebuilding is happening - once you're on the road back to relative (albeit changed) normality, healing will usually happen in big chunks. It's good to see that people are finding their true strength. I just wish I could have been there to help them out myself...ya know? I hope all the families who lost loved ones, the mothers who lost their children and couples embarking on new lives together who lost each other are discovering the beauty around them again - my hat goes off humbly to all of them. :)(F) (F)
