and I totally have to agree with the whole instant coffee stuff LisaD. Not a fan.

I love a cup of coffee in the morning.

Can't get into having tea all day. I like tea...one cup is good for me...maybe two. But that is it.

Chris always seems refreshed by a cup of tea.

I like cold water to refresh me...so there is the other thing.

Lack of cold drinks...and once again. Ice. I like ice. But I always seem to miss it the most when I am in England.

Ya go to a cafe...have a lovely toasted and buttered crumpet (oh my gosh I love emm) and a diet coke with 1 peice of ice.

not enough ice for me!

Hmm... this thread seems to have degenerated into "what USC finances/spouses don't like about the UK". ;)

For the coffee thing, its hard to explain why instant coffee is so popular, but honestly Britain is a tea drinking culture, and as such coffee is a second class citizen in general. I could say the same complaint about Tea in the USA after all, its universally god-awful and nobody has the correct implements or know how to make it. If I see another person microwave a cup of water then drop a tea bag into it, I'll go spare!

That said American coffee is pretty bad also, in the majority of cases. If you want to go somewhere where they make really good coffee, at home and in restaurants/bars, you have to go to the Continent. Italy is my favorite.

Salad cream! Ick - how anyone can eat that is one of the deep mysteries of life.

Instant coffee is another -- I remember going to some poncy cafe in Brighton and getting served instant coffee for which I was charged one pound. #######? they must have made 1000% profit off instant coffee. although I there was one brand which was not so bad, I've forgotten what it was called.

The cost of living, chavs, the outrageous house prices, chavs, the impending house market/economic crash that is inevitable due to the fact that the economy is entirely service-based and house prices are vastly beyond the reach of the average wage earner, chavs, city centres on a weekend night (because of chavs), chavs, the tabloid newspapers and that idiot culture that they spawn (chavs), chavs, xenophobia, chavs, money making speed cameras, chavs, the crowds (of chavs), the Middle England mentality, chavs, NIMBY, chavs, petrol prices, chavs, VAT, chavs, the fact that restaurants charge you for a refill.

And chavs.

Salad Cream on hot boiled baby potatoes is a guilty pleasure of mine that I recently introduced to my wife (USC) and she loves it. Sorry but Salad Cream is not a valid thing to not like about the UK.

Soooo......you don't like chavs? Funny thing is that chavs don't realise that they are chavs, yet many of them complain about chavs.

I think i would have to agree with everything you have written. I would like to add some lighter points though.

Waiting forever for movies to come out in english cinemas, english halloween (very poor), my south african dentist (butcher), english pizzas (some exceptions - but not many), and cricket.
