Hi Maite & Osmar,

We actually got our approval letter yesterday after I wrote this!  In the RFE, they asked for our taxes, affidavits from people we know, official documents showing the spouse as the beneficiary and any joint bills.  In my original application I did not include any of our taxes, which was totally my fault.  I hadn't completed 2016 taxes yet and just thought I was submitting enough other evidence that I didn't need to include previous years either.  So in my RFE submittal I gave them 3 years of taxes, our current lease, documents from our jobs showing the other as the beneficiary and two affidavits (along with some other random documents/bills showing both of our names).

I also checked our online case status yesterday and it still only showed the fee waiver message and didn't even say anything about the RFE.  I think if you are a VSC filer then hopefully you will hear something in the next few days/weeks.  Oh, one last thing, on the case status, it said if I hadn't received anything by February 9th to contact them.  So you can check your online status and if you don't hear anything in the next few weeks, then you can definitely inquire and hopefully get an answer quickly!  Hang in there and I hope you hear something soon!

Hi tcgator! How soon did they send NOA after submitting your RRE response? Congratulations!

On a separate note, I am planning to travel home for a personal emergency for 2 weeks.

My conditional G.C expired on 4/27/2017, that's what it says on the conditional GC.

1. Do you guys think, I should be good and not have any problems traveling?

2. I will be taking my one year extension letter with me. This letter extends our resident status for one year beyond our conditional green card.

In my case that would be 4/27/2018 correct?

3. My passport expires in 2024.

Do I need to stamp it for anything before I travel?

Really appreciate all your help.

regards

Steve

Hi Steve! You will be fine with letter and expired GC. My GC expired 4/17. I went to get stamp on Aug 15, 2017 because I was traveling in Nov 2017. The officer took my GC and stamp my passport with 1 year extension from that August date. The night before my trip, I was looking at passport and realized that he wrote that it would expire Aug 14, 2017. I was freaking out. I called the airport to be connected to immigration. They said be sure to take the letter. So all i had was the letter and the stamp with the obvious error of expiration date. I did not have any trouble getting back. I also checked with the airline as well, but they can't deny entry. Hope that helped.

If this government shutdown happens tonight it is surely going to delay our processing.

But ’tis a common proof

He then unto the ladder turns his back,
Looks in the clouds, scorning the base degrees
By which he did ascend.

Hello! Does anyone know how I can confirm that the address change went through the USCIS system? I submitted an address change for my husband a couple months ago and received a confirmation email. Is that all I should expect? Also, do I need to change my address as well? We live together so does it matter?

Hoping we all get our GCs soon! Hurry up CSC!

Hello everyone! Can anyone answer this question? How long does it take from experience to get a response after submitting REF response?

From what I've seen, they don't respond after you submit materials for RFE.

You should have received a physical letter in the mail at the new address to confirm the change. You might want to call them, I'm not sure what else you can do.

Hello everyone,

Logged in just to reply to this thread.

I checked my status this morning and it said, On January 19, 2018, we ordered your new card. I haven't received any approval letter. Status online changed from waived fees to card production.

Just to add, VSC was the service center and date was 1/23 . I applied for my n-400 last week. I am not sure if my approval came through because of that or it was just coincidence.

Good luck to those who are waiting. File for n-400 as soon as you can.

Thanks,

Saumil

Okay, I went to the field office, they asked me to bring a doctor letter stating so and so member of my family is sick and I need to visit.

So I am waiting on the doctors letter. Once, I get it, I will get my I 551 stamp.

thanks

Steve

I wanted to share my experience at my Info Pass Appointment today for checking on my ROC case status and getting the I551 stamped

I had applied for my ROC in January 2017. I went on to apply for my citizenship in November 2017 following the USCIS citizenship application calculator .

I haven't heard back on my ROC yet and I went for my Info Pass Appointment today to get the I 551 stamp. The officer at the Newark Field Office told me that I shouldn't have filed for my citizenship with my ROC pending . She said that because of this my ROC case has been transferred to the National Benefits Center from Vermont Center and it may be delayed by months. I asked her how many months ? she said she doesn't know. She said my citizenship may be approved or denied or kept on hold if my ROC isn't approved by the time my Citizenship interview is scheduled. I was under the impression that the citizenship will over ride the green card case.  Anyways she said even if my citizenship application was approved I should mention to the officer that my ROC is still pending. She said that if I get my citizenship before my ROC that in the future there may be a lot of problems (not sure what kind of problems )

In the end I got the stamp and everything but is any one in the same boat as I am?

Here is what the USCIS Policy Manual says:

Chapter 5 – Conditional Permanent Resident Spouses and Naturalization

In general, USCIS requires that an applicant for naturalization must have an approved petition to remove conditions before an officer adjudicates the naturalization application. However, certain CPRs may be eligible for naturalization without filing a petition or having the conditions removed if applying for naturalization on the basis of:

Marriage to a U.S. citizen employed abroad; or

Qualifying military service.

B. Spouses who Must Have an Approved Petition Prior to Naturalization

In all cases, a CPR applying for naturalization on the basis of marriage must have an approved petition prior to naturalization if the CPR:

Has a pending petition to remove conditions at the time of filing the Application for Naturalization; or

Reaches the 90-day period to file the petition to remove conditions prior to taking the Oath of Allegiance.

2. Spouses with Pending Petitions and Naturalization Applications

An application for naturalization may not be approved if there is a pending petition for removal of conditions. If an applicant’s petition to remove conditions is pending at the time of filing or is filed prior to the interview, USCIS will adjudicate the petition to remove conditions prior to or concurrently with the adjudication of the naturalization application.

You can file your USC during ROC.  The adjudicating officer must just approve your ROC case first, which can be done the same day when you have an interview.  Not the first time a USCIS officer acted as if they knew everything, but was completely wrong.  Why do they do that?  Why can’t they put I-551 stamps on passports up to 60+ days before the expiration date??

I recommend checking out the N-400 forum.  There, you will find a bunch of filers who have started and finished their US citizenship while their ROC was rotting away...oops, I mean pending, for approval.

@Amhara Many Thanks Amhara for your response. I agree with you . I feel like instead of us chasing them to keep our status upto date , they should send  us something proving the validity of our status especially if they know that some cases might take longer than others . We deserve some notification from them for the fee we have paid them. Here we r waiting and have no clue whats happening with our cases. Calling or infopass also doesnt give you any answers. I saw many people at the field office all worried about their ROC case status.
