You need a stamp for renewing a driver's license after the extension letter expires since you need to prove legal presence.

I'm still looking for an answer to if you have to use the local office, or if I can go out of state.

 

The language on the infopass site says the office "serves" certain zip codes, so I wonder if I travel to one, they would reject seeing us.

Extension letter expires when the GC expires, which should be in April for January filers. They may or may not reject you if you go to another office, I have read of both happening (depends on how strict the immigration officer is - so it's luck).

Package sent next day delivery it will arrive today 1/3/18, due to the holidays I didn't get it sent out on 12/29/17, hopefully all is correct and in order, the package was huge to my own surprise and didn't fit the 2" prong clips. Heres to the long wait again.

03-28-2015: NOA1 for AOS, AP & EAD received in the mail

04-03-2015: Notice of Appointment for Biometrics on the 14th of April at 9 a.m arrived with lawyer

04-07-2015: Notice of Appointment for Biometrics on the 14th of April at 9 a.m arrived at my address (lot slower)

04-06-2015: Early walk in for Biometrics complete 6th April, walked in at 3pm and spoke with the centre manager

05-14-2015: Expedite request made

05-15-2015: USCIS site says expedite complete but no change.

06-01-2015: Case enquiry opened with USCIS as its passed 75 days.

06-02-2015: EAD/AP card in production and to be distributed.

And just in the idea of sharing as much information as possible my complete timeline:

 

I-751 Date: 01/17/17

NOA1 Date: 01/19/17

Biometrics: 02/22/17

Approved: 12/07/17

Received Approval: 12/13/17

Status changed online to Card was Ordered: 12/15/17

Status changed online to Card was Mailed: 12/20/17

Card received via Priority Mail: 12/22/17

 

Note: I also went to a filed office to get an I-551 stamp in my passport as I had to travel internationally for Christmas and I knew the card may not come in time. I had previously been travelling on the expired card with the extension/renewal letter. I went to the office in Albuquerque, NM on 12/18/17. I live in NY. No issues at all, was there for 15 mins, they gave me the stamp without me even having to ask. Assume because I had already been approved for Green Card but still, easy if you need to travel immediately. Card ended up coming in time anyway.

Looks like all of us in the California Service Center have been forgotten. <_< Awesome to see people in Vermont are getting a lot of love!! Had issues with CBP after New Years. They are adamant that my wife's 1 year extension letter expires on receipt date 01/09/2018, instead of 1 year from expiration of her green card. They threatened to charge us $585.00 every time she crosses the Mexico/US border after 01/09/2018. We live in El Paso, TX, so we tried to schedule an Infopass appointment at our local field office with no success. They have no appointments available. So we made an infopass appointment at the US embassy in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. We went and were told that they are no longer allowed to stamp the I-551 on passports outside of the country. They informed us that our local field office is saturated and we might not be granted a walk in. We were advised to travel to Albuquerque, NM, about 4 hours away, where they do have appointments available to get her passport stamped. USCIS officer confirmed that the expiration of the extension letter is indeed 1 year from receipt date. So now we have our infopass appointment for 01/09/2018 in Albuquerque. Crossing our fingers that we will not have any issues and get her passport stamped.

i think you will be fine, perhaps start drinking the green stuff again?

Im ok waiting to hear about approval Feb filer, Vermont.  I think CSC will catch up, apparently they were processing a lot of other petitions, but that has stopped now and you know how quick they are once they start on ROC applications, they will defo overtake Vermont!  Can you make sure that you drink Super Mountain Dew please, as the regular one isnt working!! :)

That - Is - Very - Interesting.... 

 

I thought it was settled that the letter expired one year from the expiry date of the Conditional Green Card NOT from the date of the letter itself.. 

 

It could be that the officers at that border crossing are making a mistake, but that's not a battle I'd like to find myself in, trying to convince them that they are wrong... 😳
