You’re allowed to apply for citizenship even though your I-751 was not approved yet? 

 

Also, how do you know when your N-400 window opens?

You are allowed, although I was told by infopass officer that it will delay my N-400 case. Then people on the forum said it won't. I don't know who to trust. I am Sept 2016 filler in CSC and nobody gets approved yet, looks like we have around 2 months to wait - the process takes roughly 16 months now.

 

You can apply for naturalization 90 days before your 2 year green card expires.

I can then assume that VSC is a bit quicker at processing than CSC? I remember during the K1 process the CSC was super quick, while the others, like TSC, were backlogged. 

 

I dont think we’re in any immediate rush; therefore, we’ll probably just wait to complete the process in a “formal” manner (I.e., wait for the I-751 10 year GC, then apply for naturalization thereafter). We were expecting a year delay anyway.

Yeah, VSC is appr 2 months ahead of CSC.

Every case is different. I have seen several who filed n400 and it expedited the I751 because they put them together. Then some are delayed. I guess it all depends where the application goes. I am applying 90 days prior to my 3 year anniversary (POE entry) which is January 18, 2018. After that...whatever.  I am actively employed, pay my taxes, and happily married. Yeah, I hate waiting just like everyone else, but I won't sweat it much. We'll get through it. Slow, but sure.

Good Evening! I'm new to this forum, and it's nice to have a place to reach out to people who are going through the process too. It's been a long wait, and it looks like we still have more time...We filed on January 9th, bio appt. on Jan 30th, and haven't heard anything since. Every time we check the website for a status update, it says they sent out a letter of receipt and that's it. I guess I'm curious about what to do if we were to hit that 1-year mark from the expiration of the green card. Do they send out another letter to say we have another year or what? What if we were to travel somewhere? This process is ridiculous, I can't believe it's taking this long...

July 2014 - Married in Seoul, Korea

October 2014 - Applied for 2-year Green Card

April 2015 - Arrived in America

January 2017 - Applied for I-751

May 2018 - Case Approved

May 2018 - Received 10-year green card

October 2018 - Applied for N-400

March 13, 2019 - Received interview date (April 17th)

Unfortunately we wait.

 

Some of us have gotten the I-551 stamp on the passport that acts as a temporary green card until the 10 year green card is given the green light.

 

If an application is pending and the applicant's green card has expired (or is about to expire), the USCIS can provide a stamp in the passport, which serves as temporary evidence of the individual's status as a permanent resident. This stamp is known as the I-551 temporary evidence stamp.

 

With this stamp you can travel just like you would if you had a green card.

It's been almost a year since we last posted here.  Wife's job is bugging her about her green card status and her extension is expiring end of January.  She also bought a ticket to visit back home.  We set up an infopass appointment in two weeks to get the I-551 stamp just in case.

 

 

K1 TIMELINE:

June 3, 2013 -129F SENT                                                               November 8, 2013 - Transferred to Manila US Consulate                                           April 10, 2014 - Marriage!

June 6, 2013 - I-129F Received : NOA1                                        January 2, 2014 - Interview & Approved

August 8, 2013 - NOA2 Received                                                   January 11, 2014 - Visa Received

September 26, 2013 - Transferred to NVC                                    March 9, 2014 - U.S. Entry - Detroit

AOS TIMELINE:

DAY 0 - April 29, 2014: i-485, EAD RECEIVED

DAY 15 - May 14, 2014: Official Notice Date

DAY 23 - May 22, 2014: i-797c (NOA1) for EAD, I-485 received by mail

DAY 28 - May 27, 2014: Biometrics letter received by mail

DAY 45 - June 13, 2014: Biometrics Appointment completed

DAY 73 - July 11, 2014: Received Email Notification EAD approved

DAY 343 - April 7, 2015: Received Email/Text Card is Under Production, Card Being Mailed, and Welcome Notice

DAY 349 - April 13, 2015 : Received Text/Email Card has been sent

DAY 352 - April 16, 2015 - Green Card on Hand!!

Day 0 : January 7, 2017 - Packet sent via USPS

Day 2 : January 9. 2017 - Packet Delivered

Day 3 : January 10, 2017 - Check Deposited

Day 10 : January 17, 2017 - NOA received by mail dated for 1/10/17

November 27, 2017 - Approved

Feb. 8 - Interview and Approval

Feb 27 - New Card Mailed
