Timeline

processing time has changed for all of you who were wondering, back in 2013-2014, I-751 used to take 2-4 months to be processed, hopefully, approved. In 20156, the average of the processing time, based on VisaJourney Timeline tool, it used to take 6-9 months, but for 2016-2017, It takes 8-10 months if you're "SO LUCKY",  and takes 10-16 months as the average of the cases I have analyzed.

Any other statistics you got guys???

Anyone got his 10 year green card earlier????

Nowadays, attending the interview is the shortest, sweetest way!!!! if you want to take it asap!

Yes. The extension letter is not accepted as evidence for being able to work. The other alternative to use a combination of Class B AND class C documents.

I just changed my job with the expired green card+the extension letter as evidence.

Is this really an issue if changing jobs? Shouldn't the extension letter be enough (I mean, it's written right there for them)? My husband is going to be looking for a new job very soon and we don't want to have any issues with a new employer.

I don't think it's an issue. I just changed my job with the expired green card+the extension letter as evidence.

OK, guys. This seems like a rather stupid question, but since most of us here have GC expiration dates of April 2017, does it mean that we have to wait three more years (April 2020) as lawful permanent residents before we could apply for citizenship? I'm married to a US citizen, by the way.

Thank you for sharing your experience; you are right. We got an InfoPass appointment today and they refused to stamp the passport. The officer told us to use the extension letter as evidence and to only come back when the letter expires.

The way I saw it is that you can apply 3 years after being a permanent resident, meaning you can apply in April 2018. I'm sure others have better answers.

That's how I understand it, too, but a friend pointed out that I entered under conditional permanent status (hence I-751 application) because we haven't been married for two years when we applied for IR/CR1 visa. I was told that once the conditional status has been removed, I'll have to wait three more years as permanent resident before I could apply for citizenship. Can anyone confirm this?

I'm only familiar with the K-1 visa process, so I'm not sure about your case. Maybe check the naturalization checklist: https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/USCIS/Resources/Citizenship & Naturalization Based Resources/A Guide to Naturalization/PDFs/M-480.pdf

I found it here: https://www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learners/apply-citizenship

It looks like you must have been married to a citizen for 3 years to be eligible.

You are eligible to file for naturalization after 2 years and 9 months if you married U.S citizen and during those 2 years and 9 months you were a permanent resident. It is compulsory that you are still married to U.S citizen spouse during the time of filing for N-400. Based on your timeline you are eligible to file N-400 in April-2018. Conditional GC is the same GC but it has a condition which needs to be removed after the specified time mentioned. You can see the N-400 instrucations or visit the website below which has the N-400 form . Read the first page of N-400 which going to be very helpful for you.

Yup. Based on your information I will be eligible to file next month for N-400 as I meet all those criteria on the N-400 application website. I will be doing so while the I-751 is still being processed.

Thanks for the info, this will be a pain since the nearest office is an hour away and never has appointments available... and you can't just walk in, either. Ughhh.

I just wanted to share that you can use the extension letter when starting a new job.  My husband started a new job and the extension letter with the green card was sufficient proof of eligibility.  You do not need to get a stamp.

As @Name O Boy mentioned you can definitely apply for citizenship. Google the search terms 'n400 while i 751 pending' and then dig in to their stories and timelines. You will see plenty of success stories and idea of timelines there.

Well, I was finally able to get an infopass appointment in St. Paul for October 24. I am also seeing here that they can deny a stamp for being too soon before expiry of the extension letter (January 20). I hope they can see my reasoning. I work asset protection in retail, and it is coming into our very busy holiday season. I am seeing that CSC is working on July applications and chances are good that I will need the stamp anyway.  I am trying to be proactive here because I also have an aunt in Canada who is terminal and I may have to travel back there as well. The holiday season also backs things up at USCIS as well, and I don't want to wait until the last minute to have to drive three hours to Minneapolis in a snowstorm for a stamp in my passport.

So here goes, I'll let you all know how it goes..

ROC

01/18/2017   Sent in I-751

01/26/2017   Check cashed

01/28/2017   Received NOA dated 01/20/2017

02/26/2018     Case received by Field Office - S. Paul

05/012018     Case transferred to another USCIS office for processing

N-400

02/02/2018    Filed N-400 online

02/05/2018    NOA online - NOA letter 02/09/2018

Hello guys

I newly got hired at a furniture store and my I9 did not go through. ( brought in expired green card + extension letter+ drivers license + social sec.card) Although the company human resources lady was helping me a lot . we still waiting for some news from higher HR what to do. In meantime I set up an infopass at my local office, for a I 751 extension stamp( 31st of OCT). Do you think it will be enough evidence now? I filed for my I 751 in this January, got an extension letter in February, and also went for a biometeic appointment in 02/2017. Thanks for any answer. Patiently waiting , good day guys
