Thanks VeraBradley! I'm hoping it all goes smoothly! It's scheduled for 8/29

Congrats ZeeQ. I look at this on a positive side.  I think you will be approved first in our humble group on here. Get all the proof you can and you will be allright. After the interview they have to make the decision fairly quick where  most of us seems will wait a long time for any type of action. Dont look at you interview as it had to be a flag somewhere, could be random, no one knows for sure. Just prepare best you can. Did they update your status online yet? I wish you best of luck. I am sure you will do awesome

You have zero chance of getting an i551 stamp this early.  You need to do it nearer to the date you are due to travel  A month or I would say a couple of weeks before. They wont touch it until your GC has finished its extension of a year and then will only do so if you travel and it is due to run out while you are away. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but they tend to be a tad ####### about giving out stamps, or they have with me.

Well I don't know why, I have one early but thats because my GC was stolen.   They will tell you to come back nearer to your departure, but if you want to chance it, go for it and please share for others.

Oh I thought you were going now,  a month before should be fine, I think Pittsburgh insisted on two weeks before.  Every office is different. Remember to take your flight information  with you as prove.

I dont think it goes by your letter it goes by your expiry date on the GC.   It depends how long you are going away for, if you're card still has a year on it, they wont give you a stamp. I only got one as my card was stolen.  You can try, but they will say use your card and extension letter. Again it depends how long you go away for.

I got the I-551 stamp on my passport a few weeks after I filed my ROC form, I had no issue and the officer was very courteous. I did it because I had a job offer and an expired GC is not proof of employment eligibility. I printed my job offer so I would show it to the officer but he didnt even look at it, he just look in the computer and saw that my application was pending and he just stamped my passport. It really helps, I went to Canada a few months ago and they look at the GC and asked me for more documentation so I showed him the stamp and everything was fine after that. Good luck if you decide to do it.
