So that delays our citizenship application too, right? I am assuming we need the green card to be approved before applying for citizenship...

No you can't, when you are due for an i55i stamp as your expired GC and extension suffice until the letter expires, then you will have to make a info pass and take 2 photographs with you and they put the stamp onto a card.

Yes, I think so unless the USCIS decides to hire more staff :( 

Some of us lucky ones will get approvals by Oct, Nov, Dec 2017, but the rest will get approvals by Jan next year 2018.

I am not sure about this, need to check, but I would assume yes, it would delay the citizenship application process.

What's there reason for delaying hiring? Instead of training those who retired from service or left with experience can't be hired back Temp to process this? I thought they ran base on fees they collect from these apps.

Yes, I am not sure why USCIS is not hiring more people to replace the ones who retired from the service or not sure where exactly is the delay at.

As I said earlier there has been a significant increase in I751 application processing times since Mar-Apr 2016 which is clearly evident from VisaJourney pages for Mar 2016 on wards I751 visa filers.

Hi Steve1986. Can you please explain what you mean by the infopass appointment to extend our letter? I thought regardless of how long this lifting of conditions process takes, we all should still be able to file for naturalization 3 months before the 3 year period?

Hi Steve,

 

I don't think that is the case.  Someone please correct me if i'm wrong, but I think you can apply for citizenship 3 months (90 days) before your AOS, or date on the first green card received.  That's my understanding.  We plan on applying for citizenship in January, regardless of whether we've received the 10 year gc.

Hi ZeeQ,

 

I am not sure if we can apply for naturalization before we get our 10 year G.C, will have to check on that.

All of our extension letters are valid only till Jan 2018. Before they expire, we will have to make an infopass appointment to extend our stay, they typically extend it by another year, giving a letter which says that. I was referring to that. 

Looking the processing times, as of today and the overall trend, 70% of us Jan 2017 filers will have to request for an extension in Jan 2018.

I am hoping, USCIS fastens this entire I751 process, but I do not see it happening sadly :(

Yes, that would be great if we could apply for citizenship like that!

At least I personally do not have any plans on applying for citizenship anytime soon.

Oh no, I had no idea there was this additional procedure we all may have to go through! :(

 

Lets hope they buckle up before that, otherwise I guess we'll start talking about the infopass procedure around December 2017 :(

Yes, nothing is in our hands, we are at the mercy of USCIS on this one....

One more funny/weird/strange thing is the processing times vary so much case to case, a person A who applied one month later than person B, might get his G.C 2 months before person B even though person B did not receive any R.F.E.
