Individual State Background Check (For example; Visas, Gold Seal letters, and Individual Reviews):

If you live within Maryland:

  • You may go to any authorized location that provides fingerprinting services.
  • You may go to your local law enforcement agency to be fingerprinted on the state fingerprint card known as Form 015.
  • Once you've been fingerprinted, you may overnight it to CJIS-Central Repository located at 6776 Reisterstown Road, Suite 102, Baltimore Maryland 21215, or mail it to CJIS-CR P.O. Box 32708, Pikesville, Maryland, 21282-2708. (see Associated Fees below).
  • If you are requesting a copy of your FBI cirminal history record you must send your request directly to the FBI.

Guys! I'm having a hard time getting a police clearance. They don't seem to know what I'm talking about when ever I call the police department to ask if I can obtain one. One of the policemen even told me to go to ICE and ask them for police clearance since it was immigration related lol! I'm getting frustrated ... How else can I get this clearance pls? Am I going through the wrong route asking via the police department? Is there another way to get it? I have been able to obtain one from my country of origin and previously submitted a state wide criminal background check with my vawa application. The only thing left to perfect my good moral standings is just proof of police clearance from my current place of residence in the US. Help pls! Thanks

Try calling one more time without telling them it's for immigration (just legal purposes or a job) may be someone with a brain will assist u... If that doesn't work there is an alternative.

Obtain a personal record review that's what I did in NY ($62)  http://www.criminaljustice.ny.gov/ojis/recordreview.htm

So just go and get fingerprints then send them off to that address. That's what I did too for some of the states I needed and they sent the report pretty fast.

Yes I already got my state background check with the gold seal and submitted with my vawa application. Do u think that can cover for police clearance if I can't obtain it?

Why do you need the local police clearance then?? The state wide covers your county. That's my understanding at least, others may correct me if I'm wrong.

Reading from past posts, Vermont prioritizes police clearance over state wide background checks. I think state wide background check is the last acceptable option if u cannot obtain police clearance

What do you mean by criminal history record? Do you mean state wide background check?

Not necessarily. They want a ligit. proof of good moral character. It's cheaper & convenient to get police clearance sometimes, statewide/public records just may cost more & take 1-2 weeks

From page 7 of the Form I-360 instructions:

"5. If you are 14 years of age or older, your affidavit of good moral character accompanied by a local police clearance, state-issued criminal background check, or similar report from each locality or state in the United States or abroad where you have resided for six or more months during the 3-year period immediately before the filing of your self-petition;"

No. I live in california at first i went to an authorized affice to captured my fingerprints for the department of justice (DOJ) to provide a state wide criminal record but uscis did not accepted it and sent me and rfe asking for police clearance from each city i live for the past six years. Then i tried to get a police clearance in the city i lived before and the sheriff said we don t do police clearance , and then they asked me what do you need it for. I responded for legal purposes . And they responde we could only give you a local criminal history record i accepted and pay $ 35. I mailed it to uscis and 3 months later VSC approved my i360.

Hi guys,

I am on my 2nd prima facie, and so far no RFE or request for police clearance documents. Is it because I had previously filed AOS with my former spouse? Should I do one or wait to see if they ask? Has anyone had their I-360 and AOS approved without submitting police clearance documents?

I look forward to hearing from you guys.
