Hi everyone, it's been 2 months since I got an interview. They keep saying that FBI does background check since my fingerprints were expired. I didn't get any notice or welcome letter. I start worrying because I read online that they can actually reopen the case and request something else.

Does anyone have the same problem? Or did ?

My attorney says that I have to wait. I read online so many things that it makes me crazy.

How long usually does it take for FBI to finish a background check ?

I have never had problem with police in my life, but one thing - I lived in 5 states. Can this thing be a problem?

Guys, will filing for Medicaid and food stamps with prima facie be a problem for us in the future when we are about to file for citizenship ? Or is this not an issue for vawa applicants. I heard it is for immigrants in general

Better to work and pay taxes. It looks better for an interview. My attorney said to me that its good to show to an American government that you are able to be a good resident of this country. And as everyone knows, taxes here are very important.

I applied and got them both, it was either that or have my car repossessed after all I've invested, or go hungry. I hate that I had to, but that's one of the main reasons for the Prima Facie. It does not affect anything. If you get a job and still collect them, that's where things go bad for you. Ask Sandranj she is really knowledgeable.

Grameecy the type of abuse does not affect the processing time ok. They adjudicated the cases in the order the cases are received.

Sandranj, thank you for your help; because of you, I now have my work permit!

But what do you do when your spouse withdraws their petition and you have bills e.g., credit cards, loans, car insurance etc? What then? An attorney told me it doesn't affect anything, as that's what they expect you to do in your situation.

I had this situation. I have still credit cards etc, but if you work 40+ hours a week, you will not be eligible for any government help.

It doesn't effect anything, I agree, but if you work and have W2 its better for you.

I was not going to let my good credit get ruined. I've filed taxes the two years I've been working, so they will see that it was always my intention to be a good citizen/resident. I truly hate the whole public benefits thing, but if you need it, and no one has the resources to help you out, so that you don't have to take it, then take it. Some people can do without, some need it.

The only thing I really need is Medicaid. But food stamps will be really helpful too even though it's not really a necessity for me. Let's just be careful not to use it while using our EADs. I think that's where the real trouble comes in

Yes, but when my EAD expired and I had to stop working, I had to take it. I filed vawa on my own, not knowing I could've gotten my work permit. I stopped working in October, applied for benefits in November, and got my EAD last week. When I get a job this week (in Jesus' name), I'm canceling my benefits.

Yes, I agree with you. But to take those benefits you have to work part time or something. When a person works full time( not for cash) its impossible to get because income is more than government limit.

Exactly, don't use it after you get a job.

Even if you work full time you may still be eligible for benefits depending on how much you make and the number of your dependents. Your eligibility depends on where you fall under the poverty guidelines. Just be honest about your income when you apply.
