Well, just had my AOS interview... The officer just asked me questipns from the AOS application to make sure everything was correct, then marked that I got divorced and said that another officer will have to check the case and I'll get the reply in the mail. Don't know if it's a good sign or not:(

They probably want to verify your divorce and do last minute checks. A lot of people don't get outright approvals at their interviews....you should be fine and should hear back from them pretty soon.

Also it might have been a new IO that interviewed you, new IOs can't approve applications without consulting with their superior boss first.

You will always get this letter in the mail if you try to ask questions about vawa on the phone, it's their protocol for security reasons, any correspondence regarding VAWA must be submitted in writing.

You can also do the following together if time is limited:

1-Schedule infopass appointment so you can go in person to resolve the missing RFE issue.

2- Contact your congressman and ask them to inquire on your behalf.

They will have you sign a release form and will communicate with USCIS then get back to you.

I did not make a phone call to get the missing documentation.

I followed their protocal which E-request.

Sandraji, could you advice for me?

Like I said: any correspondence regarding VAWA must be submitted in writing.

You may not inquire about VAWA  online or over the phone, (and also can't even change your address that way, just so you know)  everything must be submitted in writing by mail that is the protocol they follow.

Only your congress person or legal representatives can make calls or emails on your behalf, so unfortunately your own e-request alone won't get you any results when it comes to VAWA unless you schedule infopass or contact your representative.

Guys quick question.

I just received my receipts for i485 and 601a waiver. They indicated they are in Vermont Service Center and have EAC receipt numbers.

Was wondering. Aren't they supposed to be processed through the National Benefits Center and have an MSC receipt number?

Did something change?

Also, how long till I receive biometrics letter?

@sandranj and others any thoughts on this
Recently USCIS updated some rules related to EAD, allowing EAD renewal to be filed 180 days before expiration and in case if the new EAD is not issued before the previous one expires, it looks like it is okay to continue working with this new rule. Do you think this information is correct.

Hi everyone,

I have a question,

I didn't open my divorce case yet, my lawyer is asking for $1,200

When should we open the case? Should I wait till my approval? I don't even know where is my ex husband, his address...

You can pm me. I went through that process without an attorney. Similar situation about whereabouts.

Hi Sandra and my fellow members. How soon can I file for divorce? I moved out of my abuser's house in  November.  Doesn't it have to be 12 months separation before I can file for a devorce? Also does it matter which one of us file for the devorce? What if both of us file the same time?

Divorce laws vary by state.

In MD; if you divorce your spouse on grounds of abuse/cruelty you may not have to wait the usual 12 months period and may be even granted alimony. it's better if you file for divorce.

Thank you! This calmed me down. I've been waiting for so long, what's another couple of weeks, right?
