Hey guys , i just wanna say please be careful when dishing out so much info on here because some of us go into too much  details that if I were to be your abuser and going through this thread I'll easily know you're here ... I hope you understand what I'm trying to say and hopefully we all have many reasons to smile when all this pain is over....

Once you have gotten responses to your text , my advise is go back and edit/remove some details..

Happy Sunday

Thank you for clarifying this. I just wonder why they refused to grant my Medicaid. In Maryland or at least in my county, they said Prima facie holders do not qualify for health coverage. Only 5 year LPRs can get it. All I got was SNAP 😔

Is it possible the employee was wrong? The friend I mentioned had been here only 2 yes when she got Medicaid (no prima facie either)

Also did you get your EAD

Some States  just approve Medicaid if the person keeps the immigrant status for more than five (5) years.

I haven't gotten my EAD yet. It's still pending. I hope it's approved soon.

I think different states have different laws regarding who gets what kind of benefit. Unfortunately for me, where I live, vawa petitioners can't get Medicaid. Another argument is that Medicaid is a state benefit and federal government does not really decide who qualifies or not. Not sure how this makes sense.

@Pinkrlion It's useful to have prima facie to apply for public benefits, Medicaid, FAFSA and SNAP.

I needed to see a doctor also and had to wait for my prima facie which and then my EAD to apply for SSN to get Medicaid without a hassle!

@MsBoo While it's good to have Prima Facie to validate your qualification, you may still be able to apply for Medicaid over the phone anyway since your SSN is available just choose in the questionnaire (immigrant) since your AOS is pending and you have valid status! it depends on how informed and helpful the employees are!

Which state are you in?

I think you'll find it is not OK to do that with an EAD.  It doesn't confer immigration benefits.  I do not want to end up doing something wrong at this stage.  I have had an SSN since I was 11 if I had wanted to do that I could have done it years ago,

It really depend on a person and what situation they are in. When i recieved prima facia, i was little relieved and wanted to apply for anything that i can to help  but my lawyer warned and suggested that not to use it to prevent any red signal in the future for a green card process.

If there is anyone out there needs then, they may apply

Probably I think we're in same situation. My earlier i485 was denied in Feb 2017 because my spouse withdrew her i130 in December 2016 but after I applied for vawa they rescheduled me for the old denied i485 petition. I've already received my ead based of vawa and currently pending are my i485 & i360 for vawa. Strange as it may seem I'll still go without my spouse. And then from there I'll know the outcome of everything.

Survivors of  DV  can file for public benefits even if the person works. It will not be an issue in the future because the Law allows the person to do this.

@MsBoo I was just trying to be helpful but it may vary by state!

t's been OK in NY for  my friend who was here 2 years & had a pending asylum case and then for myself recently. They simply said that our valid immigration status, residence and income requirements were sufficient, Who are we to argue!

I do have my Prima Facie but it wasn't part of my application, my EAD was. either way  I was just very thankful because I needed medical care urgently to treat and had  injury that required physical therapy!

It is apparently legal for New Yorkers, my friend did it before me& her interview went well & her asylum was approved without issues and hopefully my vawa will be too.

I wish you luck and good health :)

You must attend the interview, show them that you filed l360 and ask to put your  AOS on hold  until Vermont adjudicates your  self petition (l360).

Just  file AOS if you  have a strong case, and  if your  attorney believes that your Vawa will be approved .
