My wife arrived April 23rd. We didn't start really looking for jobs for her for the first couple of weeks (other then looking on linked in, making some contacts, etc...). No job yet, so I'll update when it happens.

Profession: Petroleum Geoscience (Exploration Geologist)

Years experience: 5 years

Location: Houston, Texas

For her it really has very little to do with the fact that she is an immigrant. She is from the UK (fluent English obviously), and has a Master's in Petroleum Geoscience from a very well respected University. Her problem is just the market is still poor and there are no/very few jobs for anyone in her field. So nothing to even send her CV in for at this point. We are building contacts though so we'll see.

We also had her move her because we knew her finding work was going to be hard, but I would have a steady, stable, high-paying job. We originally were looking at my going to the UK but then I would have had poor job prospects initially, and her job was on the line because of the crash. So we were expecting this and don't need anything to happen soon (though it is frustrating for her to be sure).

I've been applying for jobs since I got my EAD in the mail ( a bit more than a week now).

Unfortunately, I don't have much experience as a foreign language correspondent( English and French) clerk. I apply for Receptionist and office jobs. I hope I get something soon because I don't earn much as a Scentsy consultant. :D

I already had some job interviews but it looks like that my lack of experience is a problem...it's sometimes really frustrating...

Oh, and I live close to Atlanta but was born and raised in Germany. Came to the US in January this year on a K1 visa.

I'm surprised that I missed this topic when originally posted.

1. How long did it take? About 4-6 weeks because my husband had at least 2 offers at about week 4 but negotiations in salary tacked on a little more time before he started his job

2. Profession? Analytics (big data) with an IT background and experience in IT but never looked for any IT gigs

3. My husband is from India

4. We are located in Dallas

I'm an Interior Designer from Trinidad & Tobago.  I arrived in the US (Houston) in October 2016 and started looking for employment in May 2017 after receiving my EAD at the end of April.

I was offered a full time, senior position in early July after a 4-interview process.  I feel blessed to not have spent that long looking, although truth be told I sent out maybe 50+ applications and interviewed at only one other organization.

I think that being different/international works in our favour as we definitely stand out and they respect immigrants as hard workers.  Advice to those looking:  present yourself and your qualifications professionally and you will be fine.  Best of luck to all.

Two jobs that she could apply for, which she did. Haven't heard back from either (out in applications last week).

1. How long did it take you?

2. What's your profession?

3. Where are you from?

4. Where do you live?

1. It took me a less than three weeks from the time I started looking for a job.  I went to a job fair and happened to talk to one of the recruiters whose bf works for a company where she thinks I can be a great fit.  She gave me the email address for the HR and in two weeks, I got an interview and started working the next week as a Health Physics Technician. I'm working my way to become a Health Physicist.

2. I'm a licensed Radiologic Technologist back home.  Getting a license to practice my profession here meant that I would go back to school, which I didn't want to do. (I don't want to have a student loan) I'm still dealing with radiation so it works for me.

3. I'm from the Philippines.

4. I'm currently in Virginia, moving to Chicago soon.

I didn't have high expectations when I went to the job fair.  I applied to become a bank teller and a caregiver in that same job fair.  I got offered the jobs but had to turn them down because what I'm doing right now is the closest (and a step up) from what I used to do.

I'm also a licensed Radiologic Technologist in the Philippines and I stumbled upon this post because I am also looking for a job at this point. Question though: Did you undergo a background check as a pre-employment requirement?

Current timeline:

July 2019 - filed I-751

August 2020 - filed N400

Sept. 2020 - i-751 status "Case Was Transferred to a New Office". Transferred to NBC.

April 12, 2021 - N400 interview in LA passed (with a pending i-751)

May 20, 2021 - I-751 status changed to Approved and N400 status changed to Oath Will Be Scheduled. 🤩

May 21, 2021 - received a call and email from USCIS Los Angeles with my NOA with my oath schedule.

May 28, 2021 - oath taking schedule in USCIS DTLA office. 😍

They did a background check when I was already hired.
