My fiance just recieved his visa approval and we are now anticipateing his comeing to USA. I posted before about the POE and I thank everyone who answered and gave me the link on visa journey site. But I really would like to talk to someone who has recently went through on the fiance visa and especially someone from Pakistan . He is in Uk but from Pakistan. He will leave from London and first of all we are wodnering if its best to go through JFK or is San Fransisco or LA better? I am in Fresno, CAlif. I know through JFK he can request and immediate work permit. But we were wondering if he should forgoe that and just come through Calif. POE.

Also he was thinking to go to JFK and stay in NY for a week or so to see his brother who lives there . And then come on to Fresno. But somone told us its best to come straight away here because if he does not have ticket to his destination on the paper work it could cause a problem.

IF anyone can pm me or anser here so we can get more details I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Raelynn

It really depends on the airline you take. Some airlines will probably transit through JFK anyway before going to the west coast. If thats the case, you may be able to stay in New York without getting an expensive ticket. I don't think they there should be any problem with staying in NYC for a week as long as you have the ticket to your final destination.

Entering into the POE where you do not need to worry about a connecting flight is always easiest. He can also easily enter JFK and visit with his brother before flying out to California. He can also get the work stamp at JFK.

Hi Raelynn,

Ok so I have no direct experience but I have read several other's experiences of arriving at different POEs and it never caused any problems during the AOS process. You will always have the ticket when he did come to your city, in case you need to prove his arrival at final destination.

Hi, my husband recently came through JFK. He's Algerian but was living in Spain. They asked him a few simple questions (Where are you going to stay in the US, When are you getting married) then told him to wait in some room. When every one else on the plane had passed though they asked him some more questions (What address he will be staying at), took his envelope, stamped his EAD, and let him go. My husband said they were not the friendliest bunch but the whole process was relatively painless and took only about 1 hour. My husband doesn' speak English very well, but we practiced the answers to the common questions, so he could say his address and stuff like that. One good tip I read on Visa Journey was to tell your fiancee don't be afraid to say "I don't understand the question." Its better than giving a wrong answer.

Good Luck!

It's been almost two years since my husband came through JFK. At that time he didn't have a problem, took him about two hours. If your fiance should decide to fly on to California, make sure he has enough time between flights. If he should decide to stay in NY for a short visit, this should not be a problem. Just remember to tell him not to refer to you as his wife, you are his fiance, NOT WIFE. This is very important with the K-1 visa.

Good Luck on the rest of your journey.

I don't think it would be a problem for him to only book to New York. Hassan just had his ticket to New York at the time, because I wanted to get a better deal at the airport and we didn't know which flight he's gonna make. So we kinda played it by ear. Nobody ever questioned that at the POE.

Good Luck!

i would be concerned about your fiance staying in new york for a week to visit his brother. It could raise a red flag. After all you are his fiance, you think his first intention would be with the love of his life and immigration could give him a hard time ( that is just my opinion) i think they would try to find any reason to deny ppl to enter into the country. I wish you the best of luck.
