Hi,

You may want to correct your timeline, because it now shows you sent your petition on 2007-03-16 and received your NOA1 on 2007-03-23 (March, not February as you say in your post).

To answer your question, yes the average wait with California is about 2.5 months....some will wait less, others more. This process is definitely an exercise in patience for all of us. The California Service Center handles a variety of petitions, not just I-129F's, and their case load is quite large. Not that it is an adequate explanation why they make us wait so long, but it is an explanation.

Some cases have several "touches" throughout the process, others will not get any touches until a day or two before approval....again, just how USCIS works/or doesn't as the case may be.

Good luck with your journey!

Look at my timeline and you will see that I have been waiting since the beginning of January. And there are others from November and December who are still waiting. I am kind of like you with this wait thing. It is very hard to wait when all you want is to be with the one you love. But what other choice do we have? We can't call them and say get your butts in gear or they just might loose your file. We have to wait and be at the mercy of these people. But we will celebrate with you when it is over.

Again - do we have evidence of vindictive SC workers flushing away people's petitions? Should anyone call and be a rude ####### to someone in government out of frustration? No, of course not. You catch more flies with honey. But more to the point, I really, really wish VJers would stop supporting the notion that we, as citizens, should fear government employees trashing our efforts or sticking our applications under a box in a broom closet just to get back at us. I highly doubt that happens.

If you have a question or a concern, you should call whatever numbers are available to you and inquire. Do so respectfully but assertively. The worst they will do is say that they either don't know or can't do anything to help you or speed your process along. If the phone call makes you feel better, go for it. If not, don't. But don't think that they'll take action against you for asking.

 As huskerkiev said, accidentally losing a petition is a HUGE no no. I'm sure purposely losing one would be even worse for the officer. They have a lot more to lose by trashing the petition than we do by calling...

Approved petitions have been lost and caused major grief for people.

It seems like the longest wait ever, but it will be through before you know it. Once you're approved, you still have to go through NVC, gather all materials for the Embassy, wait for the interview, wait for the visa, and then have him come here. All of that takes about as long as the actual approval unless you have a swifty Embassy.

In the meantime, relax. Read some books. No amount of fretting will make it go faster. It's like watching grass grow.

This part of the process is VERY slow, unfortunately, and there's nothing you can do about it.

It took me 128 days to get out of the service center. The averages shown on this site are just that - averages for people who post here (which is actually just a small percentage of the people going through CSC, not only for fiance visas, but for all sorts of visas - and naturalizations, too).

It is very frustrating to wait - trust me, I know. But it does generally pick up speed once you make it to the consulate, so take heart.
