US Embassy issues visa only on Fridays following interview approval. In case that Friday is a holiday, (Either US or Cambodian) which was in my case last October, they schedule it on following Friday. No exceptions. All approved applicant's go through a seminar/class and petitioner's not allowed that day unlike the interview. They go through domestic violence issues and tell them not to be afraid of contacting authorities if need help. They tell them it doesn't affect their immigrant status if they contact authority. They also show them video's. It's like an information class.

Hello,

My fiance is Cambodian and we plan to file the initial paperwork for a K1 Visa soon.

My fiance lives in Siem Reap. I am having trouble trying to figure out how the complete the required 325A form for her (i.e. where she lived and worked), as there doesn't appear to be any formal addresses used anywhere outside of the Siem Reap downtown area.

For any of you that have gone through this process recently, did you face this same problem, and if so, how did you handle it when filing the initial paperwork?

Also, is the family book issued by her Sankrit considered to be her birth certificate (and child's birth certificate as well)?

Thanks,

Kevin

My fiance and I didn't have a traditional Khmer Engagement Ceremony either. Tee just got down on one knee and proposed American style. :) Our interviewer didn't mind that we didn't have a Ceremony, but he did ask about how Tee proposed. I think as along as you have a proposal story, and maybe pictures together with your ring, you'll be okay. :) Having pics with the family too is very crucial. The Embassy officials seem to prefer pictures with you, your fiance, and other people because those are more genuine. Does that make sense?

Hi all, I posted this on the tourist visa forum but I figured I would ask here as well in summary.

My girlfriend is from Phnom Penh, born and raised. She has a valid tourist visa that she obtained for a trip for teachers from Cambodia and other countries that came together for a conference in Florida. We have been communicating back and forth for the last few months and I want to buy her a ticket to come visit me here. What are her chances of a denial if she is just honest and says yes, I am going to visit my boyfriend for a few months. She has no other ties to this country, no friends or relatives. Our ultimate plan is to see how it goes for a few months before she goes back and then if it works out to start the K-1 visa process. Should she mention any or all of that? I understand that being honest is the main thing but I don't want her being too honest to result in a denial. Thanks for reading and your help.

Brett

My husband and I tried this route too, twice and were denied both times. Tee couldn't prove he had significant ties to Cambodia like land titles, a significant job, or any other assets, and my family and I didn't include proof that we could pay for him while he was in the States. You can go for it, but my advice would be to submit proof of your financial status and willingness to pay, as well as significant proof she has reasons to return to Cambodia once your visit is over. Tourist visas from Cambodia are tough to get because it's considered a "high fraud" country. Sigh. At any rate, blessing and best wishes to you both.

T&M I think you misunderstood me... she already has the tourist visa. She came and left the country once before but she is coming back for the purpose of seeing me.

Oh! Sorry about that! Actually, now my question is this: How long is her tourist visa good for? If it is expired she needs to apply for a new one, of course. :) Or is it one of those multiple entry tourist visas? If so, congrats! Those are super difficult to get!

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Thought I would post this here. I received confirmation from the US Embassy in PP today that they schedule appointments 2 months in advance. Meaning if you are contacted in December then you won't be interviewing until February at the earliest. From all the data-mining I performed it seems that all K1 and IR1/CR1 visa applications are taking 5-6 months from Case Complete to actual interview. There aren't a whole lot of statistics to look at but those that are there fall into this approximation.

Hi I am Cambodian , my finance live is US . We decided to do the K1 visa , we didn't do any engagement party here and he didn't propose me yet . Because he said he want to propose me when I arrive there . My question is , will it hurt my interview because we didn't have a proposing yet ? Will it be ok ?

Hi all!

My husband and I are wondering about extending his Cambodian passport? We are thinking about sending it to the Embassy in Washington DC, but not sure how long that takes, how much it costs, how to pay, or if it is safe. Any ideas? We've called them a bunch of times to ask, but they never answer their phone, and their voicemail box is full.

Thanks everyone!

Megan and Tee
