I received the checklist and other papers on May 14 and completed them on the 15th. I sent them to the consular in Phnom Penh on Friday and they arrived today.

What is the average turn around time for an interview to be scheduled? I took your advice and my fiance had her medical exam last week. Everything was good and she will have the report and results this week.

I cannot find someone with the checklist. Sorry. But, get your medical now. It's better.

You want to check this site. Scheduled Appointments

I recieved Packet 4 approximately 6 weeks after they received Packet 3. It varies.

Any comments on the interview? Did they ask a lot of questions? My fiance is nervous and our interview is a couple weeks away

Depends. If the interview is the last one, they are tired to ask alot of questions. If you're the first one, they are brain dead because it's to early to ask alot of questions.

What they'll generally do is shuffle your documents and try to organize your relationship with your spouse. They'll want to make sure you're atleast working if you don't have sufficient income. And, they will want to see if you are above the federal poverty line with the combined income of yours and/or your co-sponsors. If you are above the line, you are golden in terms of ability of support.

Next, they will use common sense to figure out the depth of your relationship. The common things to atleast know you're close are birthdays, wedding dates, approximately when was the last time you went to Camb. or how many times, parents names, and what your occupation....they'll ask the spouse these basic questions. As long as your spouse knows you well, you're are golden.

Hence, Income = Golden and Relation = Golden, then VISA = GARUNTEED! Good luck!

Regarding your portfolio of evidences and forms, I recommend you use a paper clip to clip them in order. Do not use binders, or folders. Don't inundate yourself with a huge pile of calling cards. Just bring a few that you've used. No sweat if you don't recieve a visa the interview on that day. Chances are you may have missed something and it's just a matter of bringing the document they asked for.

I have a question about the Engagement Ceremony. Is it a requirement during the interview to have had an engagement ceremony in Cambodia? We did not have an engagement ceremony. We met and spent a few weeks together in December. I went to eat with her and formally asked her to marry me at dinner. She said yes and I started the I-129F process upon my return to the U.S. in late December. Her interview is in a few weeks and I am wondering if they will have concerns if no engagement ceremony took place.

I did include a notarized letter of intent to marry her within 90 days of her arrival in the U.S. from me. I also included pictures of our meeting at the airport and phone bills, etc.

Thanks

Yes. It's important to have the engagement ceremony. (You know what to do with the engagement ceremony ;) )

Part of the Cambodian marriage tradition is engagement. The counselor knows how important an engagement ceremony is for the relatives living in Cambodia of the intended spouse. Do whatever you can to make the engagement ceremony. This is most important piece that really show you're committed to marry her.

Essentially, the idea is to show the counselor the strong bond between you two and that the idea to get married is not that of wedlock. Whereas, neglecting to tell the parent of the spouse that you two will get married is a really bad idea to the counselor.
