My dad is my (the petitioner) co-sponsor for my partner. He makes well above the poverty line, and I have a small salary that doesn't really matter, so we don't need to join our finances.

Based on what I've been reading, since we won't need to pool our finances, he should submit a I-864 rather than an I-864A?

In this case, on my I-864A, under "Part 5. Sponsor's Household) would I just include myself and my spouse and make no mention of a joint-sponsor?

So what I would submit would be:

Petitioner (my) I-864 and accompanying tax/documents

My Dad's Joint Sponsor I-864 and accompanying tax/documents

I'm confused about this, because everything would seem to indicate that the I-864A is where the joint sponsor would fill information out, yet on the front page of the i-864 there's the option to tick off "I am the only joint sponsor".

As the petitioner/sponsor, you file an I-864.

As the Joint Sponsor, your father file his own I-864.

You do not file an I-864A. The I-864A is for a household member of an I-864 filer.

Even if you and your dad are living in the same house, you are not part of the same household for immigration purposes.
