I've been a member just over a year. I was so frustrated with the slowness of Vermont Service Center during my ROC and needed a platform to ease my anger. Since then they've even gotten slower Poor VSC filers.

It took a few months after I joined to get my ROC approved and a few months more to get my US citizenship. I guess no reason left to hang out but I'm trying to help other frustrated people as much as I can. I think one of the weakest parts of this forum is in sharing official USICS related manuals, briefings, releases, etc. Don't get me wrong most of the contributors know the right information but no one knows where that comes from. That's why I try to find official documents/statistics/timelines from USCIS and keep sharing on related postings.

I agree. I find people answering based on what they read about others' experiences. I believe that it promotes biases and stereotypes too because each person's experience is subjective. A word that gets thrown around a lot is Fraud...and which countries are high fraud etc. I dont really like that too much because just because someone comes from one of those countries it does not mean that they are committing fraud.

In my opinion, it is largely the responsibility of the thread starter to do research to back up claims.  On occasion, I will share a source material when multiple people have posted incorrect information and the official stance contradicts what they've stated.  This is a common problem with SSN and working.  Many believe you must wait until you receive the SSN, which is not true, the SSA says you may begin once you've applied for one.

And unless things have changed a Social Security number does not permit one to work. Either a work authorization card or green card does. When my wife first arrived she received a social security number and card that said "Not work authorized."

 

N-o-I-a can you corroborate what you said about a Social Security number granting one the right to work? Perhaps you should specify under which circumstances.

It would be a mistake on my part for not being more specific, I assumed we were all knowledgable enough to know that one must also be legally allowed to work per one's immigration status.  I was speaking of CR1/IR1 visa holders who have a I-551 upon endorsement of their visa.  For employment purposes, one simply has to apply for the SSN, not actually have the card in hand for them.
