Maxalt + many Advils  + sit in a dark quiet room for a few hours.

Sit? Not lie down or sleep, but sit?

I'm imagining a pitch-black dark room, no windows, nothing on the walls. A wooden chair in the middle. I'm imagining you sitting on it quietly. For hours.

You log off VJ and get some rest.

i would love to ... i;m stuck at work for 30 more minutes ... with a giant windown in front of me and a GIANT SUN in my eyes :( oww.

i'm getting nausiated by it now....

Aah. Happens to me every day around 2:30PM at work. The sun rays come in at an angle that blinds me for hours. I have to take my laptop and retreat into a corner of my cube that is still dark and continue VJing ... I mean work ... from there.

Never leave the house without some Imitrex or similar in your pocket.

That's not help right now, I know, just a hint for the future.

when I'm not pregnant, I use imitrex at the first sign of a migraine (which I get quite frequently and quite badly)

When I'm pregnant, like now, the only thing to do is to lay down in a dark room with NO noise with a cold washrag on both my forehead and neck, and then sleep it off.

and then if that doesn't work, I go to the hospital....

Husband has suffered migraines for years and we only found out recently that one of the worst things to do is take things like Excedrin and common painkillers because they raise the blood pressure which is generally already raised during a migraine.

Imitrex is ok if you don't have to be doing anything but only when it's really severe.

An old remedy which I haven't tried is to take 2 teaspoons of powdered ginger in a half glass of water.

I feel for you, it's not a nice place to be. Hope you feel better soon

hey there...i get awful migraines.

At the first sign of one of them I have to take a couple of fizzy codeine paracetamol tablets (which is the same as codeine with tylenol - your doctor can prescribe them). If that doesn't work then within about an hour or so I start vomiting every 15 minutes, and have a blinding headache that usually hangs out behind my right eye/eyebrow.

I have to lay down in a very dark silent room. If the vomiting doesn't stop after about an hour I know it won't stop so I have to go to the ER. In the past they have given me a small shot of morphine but the last time they did that (which knocked out the migraine and symptoms in 3 minutes) I had a bad reaction to the morphine which made me sick fora bout a week afterwards.

I think i'll go back to the neurologist to see if we can figure something else out. I've tried immitrex, all the triptan drugs, nasal inhalers etc etc none of them work. Fortunatley I've had an MRI and there's nothing wrong with my brain.

Learn how to recognise the symptoms and treat them IMMEDIATELY. Try to avoid situations that trigger them.

One trick is to clasp your hands around the base of your neck to limit the blood flow. Another is to use bottled oxygen. O2 works well. Rapid breathing at the onset will limit the duration of the thing for a lot of people. Anyhow, there are lots of support groups on the net with lots of tips. These work for me.

I take a couple of iboprofen and lie down in a quiet darkened room with a cold cloth or icepack on my head and try to go to sleep to sleep off the worst of it. I don't usually take painkillers AT ALL so it's got to be bad for me to reach for the bottle - at least they take the edge off it. And then I have to remember not to eat any chocolate or have anything with caffiene in it for about four days or the migraine will come back much worse...

My youngest son started getting really bad migranes when he was 14.

The best thing we found that works for him is Advil Liquid Gels Caps for Migranes.

He can get prescription medicine from the doctor now that he is 17.

He gets them so bad he has to go into a dark room with no sound, and lay down. He cant stand any noise when he gets one.

He usually sleeps the head ache off.

I feel so bad for him being so young having them. :(
