I got the case number from NVC, what now?

Hello, so as I said, I just got my case number on the phone from the NVC, what can I do with this number? Should I wait to receive the hard letter on the mail? Please help!

You can use the CEAC Visa Status Check tool to track your case from the NVC to the embassy. I'm at that stage right now. My case is still marked as "in transit" even after 7 calendar days. I guess sometimes it takes longer for cases to reach certain embassies.

Is that flow still valid? It estimates that step 5 takes 2 weeks. But when we called NVC they say it can take up to 6 weeks.

Back when that page was written, step 5 only took around 2 weeks. The NVC's oft-quoted timeframe is 6 weeks, but lately it's been taking 21-30 calendar days. My petition took 26 days from NOA2 to NVC. YMMV, as they say.

I called today and NVC said they just got it, but don't have a number yet. Any idea how long before they do?

Also how long after that does it take to get to the embassy?

You should have a case number within 4-5 days max. Embassy transit times vary widely. Some people's cases arrive within 2 days, some within 2 weeks. It's embassy-specific. I've heard that some embassies receive petitions electronically while others (Bangkok, in my case) wait until they receive the physical paperwork from the NVC via DHL.

Hi Alex!! You don't have to wait for the hard letter on the mail. I never got mine on the mail so we took matters in our own hands. My fiancée e-mailed the ustraveldocs website asking if they have received the case number in the Philippines. Wait for 4 weeks before you ask them thru email. They reply around 2 to 3 working days. I wish you luck!
