Well what I said to spur this little diversion into snowflake politics was, that if Pearl Harbor had happened today, Obama probably would have said, we can't blame Japan or its people for the actions of a few or words to that effect and not done squat.

I think that Japan as a Nation had to be held accountable for its actions. To your question did every single Japanese agree with all the atrocities committed by the Japanese, probably not.

However that is of little importance when it's time to unleash the dogs of war and of Absolutely zero importance when we went war with Japan.

Well for one thing, the world is a very different place now. I think that among many recent Presidents, had Pearl Harbor happened, you'd find them saying the same exact thing as you posit Obama might say (I would argue that Bush said many of these same things repeatedly). We have no evidence that he would say those things, only your supposition though. We could also argue that there was a point in WWII where the American position was to not do squat, as you put it, until a certain cross-line. Where we tended to just say ''naughty naughty'' and do absolutely nothing, in particular when the Germans were ramping things up.

In wartime Nations do terrible things to one another, whether they are truly supported by the full weight of their people or not. You would argue that we held that Nation accountable for their crimes by causing suffering to their people ourselves as punishment, whether those people were involved or supported the original crime or not. It seems to me though a grave pity to sully a thread which is supposed to be about remembering the dead, with snark directed toward other political matters of the day. If you don't like falling into ditches, you shoved it rather hard in that direction.
