Fill out and sign the DS-230 (OF-230) Part 1 biographical data sheet and send it back to the Consulate

Hang on to the DS-156 and 156K application forms. Fill them out but do NOT sign them until the interview itself, as the signatures must be witnessed by the Consular official.

Since I am also involved in petitioning from the Philippines I will say this:

The I-130 sent to USCIS is for an IMMIGRANT VISA - IR-1/CR-1 with full immigration rights upon entry into the United States. The National Visa Center requires an Affidavit of Support from the Petitioner (Sponsor) and a DS-230 Application for Immigrant Visa from the Applicant (Recipient).

The I-129F (normally used for fiance) is used for reuniting spouses but is a NON-IMMIGRANT VISA - K3. Its requirements are different and involve the Affidavit of Support from the Petitioner but the simpler I-134. Also, the Applicant must bring to the Embassy Interview the DS-156, DS-156K & DS-157. If the visa is granted the Applicant must READJUST immigration status after entry into the U.S. just like a fiance would.

Two separate petitions with two separate requirements.
