I've bought things on ebay but I'm not sure if I really like it. The concept is great but I've participated in several bids where I suspect that a bidder (with zero items won) is in league with the seller to push the bid price up. I usually step away from those auctions.

On the other hand, we have bought cool stuff on there too. For our 2nd wedding anniversary, hubby found a whole China set that had my name on it!!! I thought that was the coolest gift I've ever received!! :)

I think those bidders are not so much 'in league with the seller' as they ARE the seller, bidding with a separate account - I avoid those ones, too! They're usually pretty easy to spot, you can search by items bid on by a particular user... and sometimes you'll find that they do seem to have a remarkable fondness for one seller's items above all others. Uncanny, that.

I'm loving eBay right now... what with being a 'foreign fiancee with visa in hand and preparing to leave the country imminently' and all. I have a ton of old junk that I've been listing, and am surprised at just how much of it people want to buy! The other week I sold a pile of old concert ticket stubs that I found in an old shoebox (that I'd gone to throw away, then thought 'someone might pay me a pound or two for those)..... for £38. That's about $70 to non-UK-ers. People really will buy ANYTHING, it seems!!

Now if only they would do something about the spammers, and the scammers, and the timewaster bidders who win and then are never heard from again (or the ones that email you on a Sunday morning, after having sent their payment, a week late, the previous night, demanding to know where their item is... or the ones who send repeated messages offering to buy something for about half of the current high bid for a 'quick sale'... sigh), eBay would be a marvellous thing indeed.

I found some old My Little Pony horses I used to play with as a child at my grandmother's house and I sold them on ebay for $80. 15 stupid little horses! I have bought some cool stuff from ebay, too. Just watch out for those emails that look like they're from ebay and they're not. NEVER open ebay from an email. Always open a new window and go directly to www.ebay.com

It is not worth the risk and a lot of people get suckered every day. A real email from ebay will have your username in the body of the email. A fake one will say something like, "your username is included to prove the identity of the sender blah blah blah" but your username will actually not be there.

Anyway...got that off my chest. :)

Ebay is the answer to the question of why I've kept all that junk from my childhood around so long. I'm sold my collection of 60s comics for several thousand, and now I'm selling old computer punch cards that even I wondered why I kept, for about 30 cents each. I have 10,000 of them. Yes Ebay is great. Also a good place to find that one thing you need that you can't find anywhere else.

Every Spring and Fall I sell some of my kids' clothes on Ebay. Whatever I end up not selling I give to Goodwill. Usually I make about $300/year or so. It's more for the fun of it though...I love watching how many people bid and all that.

I've bought some things on Ebay when the stores have sold out but I'll only buy them "New With Tags". I'm kind of leary buying games off of ebay though. A couple of years ago I bought a ton of Gameboy games real cheap that were supposedly new but when my daughters put a couple of them in the machine they didn't work. I didn't bother trying to contact the seller but I should have 'cause it was for their birthdays and they were really bummed about the ones that didn't work.

My computer I bought from ebay was $8 with $32 shipping. It's a 1 GHZ P3, 256 MB Ram, 20 GB HD, and it comes with keyboard and mouse.

It's running on Slackware Linux very well. I love it. Doesn't freeze on me, nor give me any problems. Probably the cheapest computer I ever bought. I might buy a couple more and link them all together.

Since Linux requires little system resources, it's more efficient than Windows. Therefore, it runs quick. My laptop is a Windows machine though. All my desktops are all Linux.

US eBay is not as good for bargain hunting as German eBay. I also hate PayPal with a passion. I would rather pay by wire. US dinosaur banks make that a hassle.

I prefer craigslist.org. Just have to read carefully for signs of scamming. This is particularly widespread in the auto sections. Good old fashioned garage sales are also nice.

i like the iDEA of ebay but i've never had good luck. won bids, paid the money, and never received some of the things i bought off ebay. and ebay never did anything about it.

some bids i was sure i'd win and the last .0001 second some pro put in a bid like a dollar more than mine and i lost. so that sucks too.

but ive heard great things about ebay from others! just doesn't work out well for me up to this point.

I only bought on ebay until recently. I didn't think I could figure out the seller stuff by myself, so I went to a local business that sells for you and takes a small cut of the profits. It was awesome. I got rid of my skis, poles and boots, as well as a couple of musical instruments.

I just bought a BRAND NEW digital camera. It came with rechargeable batteries, a charger, 1GB of memory and a few other accessories for less than I would have paid for the camera alone in a store. EBAY ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been buying and selling on Ebay for over 5 years with no problems. When buying, always check other online places before bidding. Often what you think is a bargain isn't after a little searching around. Don't ever get carried away in a bidding war unless it is something you desperately want and can't get another one. I love Ebay, but my latest obsession is Etsy. Wow, there are some beautiful things on there, and way cheaper than you could buy in any art gallery or crafty place. I'm going to start selling on there for sure.
