How do I apply for the itin. Other places I tried are charging me 150 or 200

I applied for an ITIN recently,  because my husband needed to file his 2016 tax and I don't have a SSN yet. You can download the ITIN form (it's called W-7 if I'm not wrong), fill it and attach to it a certified copy of your passport or send the original passport. If you don't have your certified copy of your passport and you don't want send your passport to IRS, you can get an appointment with IRS in one of their offices close to where you live to certify your passport is authentic. So, in that way you don't need to send your passport to them. Or you can also go to verify your passport and so your application to one of the many acceptance agents authorised by IRS. There is a list on IRS website. Your ITIN application need to be send with your 2016 tax return thru mail,  leaving blank the ssn space. Irs will process Itin application first (In 6 -7 weeks) then 2016 tax form. I, personally go to do all this to an acceptance agent in a h&r block to certify my passport for ITIN and also to do 2016 jointly tax return with my husband. I'm still waiting for a response from IRS

 My AOS journey

12/22/2016: AOS and I-130 sent

01/10/2017: Checks cashed

01/11/2017: Acceptance confirmation thru e-mails and texts

01/17/2017: Noa in the mail

01/24/2017: Biometrics appointment letter for 02/02/2017

02/02/2017: Biometrics taken (I've removed my piercing :(  )

01/30/2017: Got a letter saying I forgot the medical form I-693

i wonder how accurate that is especially because i along with scores of people are in the first week of decemeber and our cases have not been touched yet. According to the the Visa Journey data, for EAD's issued in the last 90 days, the average is 99 days.

ROC Timeline

June 18, 2020: Delivered to Arizona PO box

June 23, 2020: Credit Card Debited

June 24, 2020: E notification for case (LIN-Receipt)

July  15, 2020: Case was updated to show that fingerprints were taken

July 16, 2020 : Official NOA letter dated July 1 was received

I am considering what they posted as "Processing as of Today", not processing as of "January 31. 2017".

Hence, I am expecting them to move on the December filers cases starting from tomorrow.

Makes me more patient instead of questioning what they have been doing since January 31st till now<_<

I filed on February 17th :)

I called IRS last year bc I was worried . Turn out they had forgotten to send my Itin letter .

So if you don't receive it in a few weeks, just call and ask about it.

As for the taxes, It Did take us a little while to get the refund bc they have to process the Itin first and then from there , it takes an additional 4 to 8 weeks for the refund. We had filed early in January ( not as busy yet) and it still took us a while to get the return.I believe late March/ early April.

And Yes , ITIN W7 FORM IS FREE. You can pay the preparer that is handling it ( if you have one) but never pay for the form itself.
