Priority date Dec 21 at Nebraska, approval date Sept 11.  I'm a little bummed out now though, since they're going to send our approval letter to our home in Brazil, but we leave this Saturday for a month-long holiday... which means we won't be able to take any next steps until we get back in mid-October, so we're looking at a couple weeks of lost time.

 

Is it possible to fill out/submit forms/pay fees remotely without having the letter in hand?  I could also ask my in-laws to check our mail periodically and then scan/email when it arrives.

You can call up NVC and get the Case number and Invoice number from them to start the online process. Starting with the DS261 and then onto paying the fees.

For instance, I'm on week 4 now I think and still waiting till I can get my case number.

You'll get another notice when it goes to the department of state, maybe in 2 weeks, then another week or 2 till they'll have it and it takes them time to process it still.

You should call up the NVC and get your case number and Invoice number.

Yes but not right now, its way too soon for them to call, I myself called last week and they still haven't received it and that was a week after it was sent to department of state, there'll be another notice in about 2 weeks about it being sent to the department of state and at that point it still won't be available, it'll be a good month before you can get it, once they receive it'll also take time for them to get it into the system, no point in calling everyday, the number is NOT available as soon as you're approved, the NVC won't know anything about it.

I got my case number and invoice id at end of week 3. My Signature has all the details as to when all what happened so far.

Personally I called twice last week, its still not in their system, I might call tonight, I'm sure the holiday put a hick up in it.

That's interesting, we were approved on the same day, did you get notice of approval on the 21st or USCIC said it was approved on the 21st?

 

I got notice on the 23rd and it said it was approved on the 21st, then shipped to NVC on Sept 1st

I also got the email notice on the 23rd stating that it was approved on the 21st. Then i got an alert on the USCIS app on the  30th stating that the case was shipped off to the NVC on the 28th.

The interesting thing is that the hard copy notice had a date of the 18th, see attached. You need to look at the notice date on yours and see what it is. That is what determines when the case was actually approved i think, dont quote me. I could be wrong.

Mine has the same notice date, but looks like you got shipped a few days before, so my optimistic guess is the earlier half of this week.

Definitely calling today.

@arsalk, looking at the form I-797 you posted, your NOA2 should be 2017/08/18, however on your timeline you have 2017-08-21 which is wrong. NOA2 is the Notice date and it is the approval date per VJ timeline entries.

 

Is there a confusion or am I missing something? Please enlighten me, thanks.

Interesting thing, my original priority date was Dec 20th, which was odd because it was a whole week after they received it, when I received NOA2, it said Dec 13th. USCIS website says approved on Aug 21st, but like his my notice says Aug 18th.

@MrHanky, I think you may also have the wrong date on your timeline for NOA2. Your NOA2 (VJ approval date) should be 2017-08-18 for both you and @arsalk

 

See a screenshot part of the timeline entry page and on the right side click on "help finding your NOA date" link that will help you on how to obtain the right date to enter (highlight in yellow).

 

I made same mistake with my NOA1 by entering the PD date, but I corrected it to enter the Notice date.

The notice itself has no mention of the approval date the USCIS website shows.

The dates are quite confusing but the "help" link from the timeline update page provides the correct date to use when updating timelines. In fact you cannot update the timeline unless you have your form I-797 (Notice of Action) because that is the only place you will find the NOA dates.
