Getting a tourist visa for a cruise after previous rejections

Hello everyone!

I've been dating a Turkish man for almost a year now, and we've had poor luck getting him to come visit me. As a graduate student, I've had more free time than him (but not really), but I'm very low on funds. Before I get to the main question, here's some background:

Two years ago, my boyfriend applied to a language school in NYC because he has family there. He was rejected for a student visa, probably due to the school not being a affiliated with a university, and him applying to NYC of all places, as well as the fact that he didn't has as much money as he does now. His cousins in New York agreed to sponsor him, but I know not that that's not enough.

Fast forward to June. He applied for a tourist visa to come see me in October. Despite having a great paying job, a car, family in Turkey and even property, he was denied.

I know he has a huge obstacle to overcome (I spoke with a visa specialist). I'm praying that he hasn't been somehow blacklisted. My family invited him to come on a five-night cruise next May, and we think it would be a good step for our relationship. We're planning on speaking with a professional and booking the cruise before setting the embassy appointment. I'm hoping he can come for the cruise plus an extra week to see my hometown.

With all that being said, is there a chance that he will be granted a visa? I'm hoping that the cruise will be seen as a more stable plan, but I'm not feeling very confident. Has anyone here had success after multiple rejections??

Nothing a professional whatever that means can do.

Do not book anything that is not refundable.

I have seen cases where people have obtained a visa after prior rejections.

All he can do is apply.

Have you thought of a cruise elsewhere?

People have had success after prior rejections. There is no blacklist, but a third attempt would be viewed against previous tries; mixing visas might make him look desperate for a US visa.

Do not book anything until a visa is in hands; paying for a non-refundable cruise would not improve his visa chances.

Have you looked at a Mediterranean cruise as an alternative that he can get to easier?

Hi,

What sort of "professional" are you using?

The US Embassy specifically advises not to make any non-refundable travel plans before having a visa in hand. Since the advice has been issued, the US Embassy will not care that he has prepaid for a cruise. There is no leadway or advantage in getting a visa when ignoring the US Embassy's explicit advice.

Booking the cruise before his visa interview will not help him in getting a visa.

I don't get it. You state you have more free time than him (not really) and you are low on funds, yet you can afford a cruise and for him to fly to the US? Why can't you just go to visit him?

Thank you all for the replies! That's good advice to think about.

Some extra info:

"I don't get it. You state you have more free time than him (not really) and you are low on funds, yet you can afford a cruise and for him to fly to the US? Why can't you just go to visit him?"

So this has already happened. I skipped a week of classes in October and we met up in Europe. (He hasn't had any issues getting EU visas, so I was bummed to see that not work in his favor for a US one-- but oh well.) I'm also going to Turkey at the end of this month. I get help from my family, and I also work a few extra jobs on top of my classes, so it's been a bit easier for me this semester. Also, I'm not paying for the cruise. Nor would I be paying for him to fly to me, so it would be the most affordable option since he has higher paying job. Plus he could meet my family here.

"What sort of 'professional' are you using?"

I met someone in Turkey who have worked in consular affairs before, so we want to run our thoughts past them. I know the interviewing FSO has the final say; we just want to know if this is something worth trying or if they think it's a terrible one.

"Have you thought of a cruise elsewhere?"

The cruise has already been booked unfortunately, since it's a family trip that my boyfriend recently got invited on. Everyone has put down their deposits.

---

I know I left out some stuff before, but I didn't want to write a long book! I asked about the deposit only because I've heard from others that it looks better when you have more of a set plan. Of course he wouldn't book any flights, but I didn't think a small deposit would be bad. But yeah, if it won't help then I don't see the point.

I appreciate the advice.

It would be rare to come across a 'professional' who can actually help, lots of scammers.

B Visa is fairly simple, he applies and finds out, his situation is what it is.
