When my husband and I went through the K1, we spent on evening on the phone filling out the DS-160. I am the petitioner. I filled it out to save him the insane internet fees he would have had to pay. He did however log in after we were done just to make sure everything was correct and submitted it himself. Fair warning it can take sometime to fill out, so make sure you have a block of time.

As for the fees, they can't be paid ahead of time for a K1. It's treated different than a CR1. There is one fee, I can't remember the amount, that your fiancé will need to pay the embassy the day of the interview.

I hope that helps.

This is very helpful. So for K1 we have to pay the 265 on the day of the interview? Not to pay at the bank. GT bank I believe it says.?

I don't know if its different with the beneficiary being from a different country, but I know that I have to pay for my K1 BEFORE I am even able to schedule my interview. There are various ways you can pay this fee, but it does need to be done before.

Correct you will pay the fee at the embassy on the day of the interview. My husband says you'll pay and the receipt will be added to your documents before it will be processed.

This is not correct for the Ghana embassy. For K1 interviews, the Ghana embassy schedules the interviews for the applicant. The beneficiary pays the fees at the embassy the day of the interview. A receipt is then added to the evidence that is brought that day.

Every embassy is different and Ghana tends to do everything in a different way than other embassies.

She logged on the link the embassy sent her and she filled out the ds- 160.

Then she finished the forms and I logged on the egi site and paid. They say they allow debit card purchases but they did not allow mine. I checked with my bank and they were not blocking payment. I ended up having to send a wire transfer which my bank charged me $65 for the pleasure. It took then 72 hours to finally acknowledge and payment and this allowed us to set an appt.

This was all with the embassy In Warsaw Poland. But I feel this was a cgi issue with their website.
