Had any body seen or experienced that at USCIS office at Los Angels field office, A US national infant( I have 4 months old son) was allowed with their parents with out info pass for him? My understanding is that this infant has nothing to do with their parents immigration issue. He is just accompanying his parents, so still he needs info pass ? Other question is that at the same office as I mentioned above, do they allow walk ins for to get one year stamp on our passport or we have to have appointment for this purpose . ANY BODY , ANY ANSWER RELATED TO THESE ISSUE ???,!!!!!,!,!!

I can't speak to that specific office, but my husband and I have been twice to the San Jose field office for infopasses and brought our two children, and no one ever said anything about it.

Good luck!

Hi, thank you very much for very helpful information. Is it true that they do not see any one without infopaas appointment and walk ins are not allowed for I- 551 stamp pending decision on I-751?

Hi everyone, i have just found this site and thread. And I have a quick couple of questions if anyone can help answering it.

Im a december flier like everyone here, my one year extension letter will bring me to April 2018,

so do i need to get the i-551 stamp?

is it necessary? (i dont plan on leaving the country or going anywhere)

also my british passport is set to expire in april 2018 too, so i need to order one within the next couple of weeks.

Do i just wait and just use my old passport even though it would be expired if i get the I-551 stamp?

or can i order my new one and hopefully get it before i can make the i-551 appointment?

i don't know if that affects anything in the process etc

any help or answers would put my mind at ease as i was hoping this whole thing would be finished by now, but from the look of the thread, it looks like the wait will continue.

thank you very much for your time.

Hi,

If your case is still in progress you are still a permanet resident, it doesn’t matter if the paper with the extension expired. If you need to get a drivers license or a job, you have to show them that you are legal. But if any law enforcement agency or officer runs your Alien registration number, they can instantly see that you have a legal permanet status. Even at the airport.

The stamp is more for peace of mind and to make things easier for you, or if someone request that, like the DMV.

If your passport is about to expire, they will normally extend the visa up to the expiring date of the passport. (They might not even pay attention to that, but they should).

Renew your passport first, and If you have an infopass office nearby, get the appointment and do it. I was able to choose multiple appointments at 12am EST. You need to check every day. And make sure you choose an office that supports infopass.

Good luck!

Diego.

ok, great, i have a job that i have been at for 2 years, and my drivers license doesn't expire til feb 2019, so im all good there.

I will go about getting my passport now then, and will try to get the info pass appointment next. Thank you for your help, i was just worried that for some reason i thought that if i didnt get the I-551 stamp before my letter of extension expired i would be in limbo in the process or something.

appreciate it, my mind is somewhat at ease

I'm sorry, I don't know much about that aspect.  We live a long ways away from the field office, so we didn't want to come and risk being turned away due to no appointment.

We did do an early walk in for his biometrics more than a year ago, but that was at a different facility closer to home.

Someone else may have a better idea of current rules about appointments.  Good luck!

As far as I know, they do not allow anyone into the office without an InfoPass appointment. For Los Angeles, I had luck last week getting an appointment by logging onto the scheduling system at 6:45 AM. At that time, they had appointments available throughout the day for 13 days later (e.g., on Wednesday, Feb 14 they opened up appointments for Tuesday, Feb 27).

Actually what happens if your passport is expired is that they will ask you to bring two passport photographs with you and they will put the stamp on a temporary card, separate from your passport. Obviously if you need to travel out of the country then it would be wise to wait until you have renewed your passport, save you carrying the card and the passport together.

I was told on here that such a document exists, so we took passport photos when we went to my husband's infopass, as his passport is expiring in about 3 months and he doesn't have immediate plans to travel.  But the officer would only stamp it till the expiration date of his passport, and denied the existence of another document, saying that if he doesn't have the green card by May he will need to bring a new passport to stamp.  Fortunately he can get it renewed without having to send it in, which would leave him with no documentation, but it was annoying to have bought passport photos for nothing.

Unfortunately you were told incorrectly.  I have a letter here from the manager of a field office which states, that if my passport is expired to bring two photos to an info pass which will be put on a card.  Your passport was still in date, so perhaps that is the reason why. However, you don't need to bring a new passport. I believe the manager of a field office.   This is another case about a stamp in a card rather than a passport its called a i-94

It seems there are so many offices that don't know and if they don't know they speak to their supervisors who don't know, that is until you write a letter of complaint and then it all magically seems to get resolved.

I do believe you... a few different people here on VJ have referenced it.  I think the officer was just uninformed/stubborn.  Oh well, here's hoping the process is done by mid-May.

Trust me I understand that sentiment. I lost my GC just before ROC. I made an appointment to get an i551 in my passport and I arrived there as I had a trip planned for Ireland, luckily I had an old stamp that was about to expire but hadn't. I asked for a stamp they said no, you need to apply for an i-90. I said why I have applied for ROC?  I don't want to spend hundreds I cant afford for my ROC application to cancel a replacement card I may not even get and that will be expired by the time I receive it.  They said without an i-90 we cant stamp your passport. I sat there so frustrated and so deflated, as my GC went missing when I had lost my purse with all my credit cards and such. I had already spent hundreds on a transportation letter to get me back from England too. It was like adding insult to injury and basically putting salt into an open. I just cried. They asked their supervisor  to double check for me and the supervisor gave the same answer.. I said I am sure I had read online that if I was near ROC I didn't need an i-90. However, they were adamant!

Too cut a long story short, I came back from my holiday in Ireland and my husband was still very angry about it all. He wrote a complaint letter to the field office, within two weeks a reply came through saying come in for your stamp and if your passport is expired then bring two photographs and we shall put it on a card which was from the manager of the field office. He also rang me up to see if I was ok and did I have my stamp.

So it took a complaint letter to get what should have been given in the first place and although the staff were courteous towards me and I didn't want to complain, sometimes you find that you have no option.  USCIS has such complicated rules that its no wonder their own staff are sometimes confused, I am sure a few just use their powers and if they have a bad day take it out on their customers, but I believe those are the few.
