You can still apply. Just show them your extension letter. They will honor that without any further questions. 😃

So if I have a start date of Jan 2, 2018 and my green card is expiring Jan 15, 2018, it should be okay? I'll try to get an infopass appointment soon ..keeping fingers crossed they don't stop me from getting hired

It won’t! I have a start date of January 2nd as well, mine expires Feb 11th. I also had to do a Level 2 background check because I’ll be working at a University and I’m all cleared to start. So you should be good to go! Hope this helps!

Good luck!

Has anybody had any issues with maintaining your employment because your green card is about to expire?

I'm about to apply for a new job and I am afraid they would not be able to hire me since my green card is end dated to Jan 13, 2018.

As others have said, don't worry too much! Most employers also use e-verify so even if your letter is expired they verify your residency status online with USCIS with your social security number etc and they get a response which is either a green or a red kind of message. When I started my new job they were asking me about the letter and then they were like oh well the government system (e-verify) says you are good to go so we don't even need a copy of that letter lol..

Ive had something similar when me and my brother did ours and mine was approved before his.. my understanding is that it doesnt always go together.. the explanation they gave me was that it goes to different officers and its dependednt on how fast they process it... but then again they are ever changing..

Thank you! I hope I get an update with mine and my son’s soon..

So... It shouldn't affect their ability to hire you based on eligibility for work authorization. I say this because I have gone through this and had a bunch of stuff happen....

I started a new job august of this year, my green card was already expired and the letter expires january 2018. I am currently scheduled to get my infopass stamp..

The way some employers understand it is once your letter expires they want to have the security that they wont fall into legal issues with continuing your employment. My job hasnt had many experiences with people in my situation needing to renew green cards which my lawyer was super helpful in. She provided me with a letter explaining the letter and how my stamp would grant an additional extension and how i dont fall into any change of status while they have not declared an approval on my case..

My advice is go in prepared employers dont like uncertainty. So get your infopass appointment ASAP (log in at midnight and check for appointments then..they go like hot cakes..) and also bring your letter and green card..

Congratulations on the JOB btw :))

No matter what I am always prepared! For any situation. I will still be getting my stamp just to be safe. But fortunately for me all they deal with are candidates with my situation. They do E-verify and they have advised me that my status is legal once my case is still pending.

But thanks for the heads up either way!

VSC has had several approvals, so it is more to those people I'm asking.  I don't know what percentage of cases require interview, so I'm just curious if anyone had to do one at all

I don't think u gonna get an interview since VSC is approving December 2016 files. I assume they would have send you a notice already. Very few people get interview during ROC because most of us already had interviews during AOS or otherwise. They interview only if you your file has insufficient evidence or if for some reason you got unlucky.

I never showed my employers the Extention letter, and they've never said anything, as has already been said they'll lookup e-verify.
