I have a question:

My conditional Green Card expired the 03/10/2017.

I filled the I751 and received the the NOA dated as 12/19/2016 saying that it will extend my green card for a year.

Does that mean it extends from the 12/19/2017 or 03/10/2017?

It extends it 1 year from the expiration date of your conditional resident card which is 1 year from 03/10/2017 in your case.

Either way, you're going to be fine.

I've never had any issues, however, when I was waiting for AOS (Interview waver), I would get sent into secondary every time. They were always super friendly, and it was just a routine check.

Safe travels!

Thanks Nikkosan, I have PTSD regarding secondary, when I first got my K1 visa and I flew to the US I got sent to secondary and the man was less than friendly about it, he was grilling me about why I'm getting married and where why I'm flying to my then fiancé's parents house, I got through in the end but it wasn't the greatest experience.. I suppose it's always hit and miss with the immigration officers.

I completely understand.

I think now, as an established permanent resident, things will be different. In my personal experience, when I was traveling during AOS, I even had an officer PROFUSELY apologize to me as he didn't understand my US husband (same-sex couple) was my husband, and he was less than kind to us while I was getting sent to secondary, because he had to temporarily close the US citizens line while he took me there. I remember seeing, and hearing, one of his colleagues take him to a corner to explain the situation, and then, just like magic, the grumpy officer pronouncing the words "I'm sorry" right to my face! You can imagine, it felt like seeing a flying unicorn, a one of a kind experience!

Wow that must have been something! It's amazing how grumpy some of them can be. I remember flying back through Dublin last year, one of the few airports that has US pre-clearance outside of the US and the US immigration officer was questioning me about the name of the town we live in as he'd 'never heard of it before' I had to tell him what bigger towns it was closer to before he accepted it was a real place, I couldn't believe it.

We all have those stories...

Once, when I was still a college student (and the Defense of Marriage Act was still the law of the land), we crossed into Canada (welcomed with a big smile), and then, when we crossed back into the US in Detroit, the IO asked my husband (partner at that time) "verbatim": "Dude, whose vehicle is this?", at least 6 times, using "dude" while interacting with someone who could have been his father. Just nasty. I told my husband that if something like that were to happen in Europe, the IO would have gotten an earful from me. I understand they have a job to do, but there is this thing called respect and professionalism that still need to happen, no matter the position of power one is in.

Again, safe travels! We'll be next door in Ireland and Northern Ireland at the end of September, and I got my postgraduate degree in London, so I am looking forward to being back there!

The younger ones tend to be worse for it! I'm only 24 myself and when I was coming back and forth right after we applied for the K1, I had an IO ask me "What online video game are you a part of then?" Making out as though I was flying over to meet my online gaming friends, I had nothing on my person to suggest I was doing so, they're very strange sometimes..

That's great you're going to Ireland, my father is from Mayo and my grandma on my mothers side is Westmeath so I'm more Irish than English, in fact Ireland was the first place I took my American wife to visit, her first trip outside of the country.

Thank you very much for the reassurance, we could all write a book on our IO experiences!

My husband has Irish ancestors, from County Cork, near a town called Bearhaven. He's been there in the past, but that's my first time. I'm looking forward to it!

Cheers, or better, Sláinte! to all the weird/bizarre questions we've had to answer!
