Yeah, I wouldn't even bother using the check my case status thing on USCIS.gov. It's broken or something, and a few other people have said that it's most likely never going to be updated.

I log in regularly just to keep the account from going inactive, not that that really matters.  Just a reminder...the account passwords expire after 90 days, so you will have to reset them (mine went this week).  I think we all hope that we will be the lucky ones who hit a desk sooner and beat the long delay ;-)

I'm keeping my expectations low. I'd be surprised if I get my new green card before I file for citizenship tbh

Well, I'm a little more hopeful than that, mostly because I have a fair bit of travel this year, and I just want to move forward.

Good news...I took a cruise last weekend, and while the cruise staff were very confused seeing an extension letter, there were no issues at all coming back in.  GC in hand, extension letter and marriage certificate.  Boom, boom, boom.

My bigger concern is what, if anything, the hiring freeze will do to the processing centers (I don't think USCIS counts as "security" except very loosely).  If any staff leave and they can't replace them, the backlog will just get worse.  Add to that any "increased vetting" and it could be pure hell.

Why, you think it will take that long?

Hi everyone,

It slowly becomes time to start working on our ROC. Exciting !!

Here is what we have on evidence so far: Any thoughts ?

-Green card

-Marriage Certificate

-Jointly filed tax return 2015

-Lease

-Health insurance documents of the last two years

-Car insurance

-Credit cards

-Bank accounts

-Receipts of flight tickets for several vacations we did together

-Retirement accounts statement that state we are each other's beneficiary

-Affidavits of family members

-Photos of the last two years

What do you guys think of that ? Should that be sufficient ? Any help is highly appreciated.

Looks good but I thought they already have your marriage certificate. You should include birth certificate of a child or children born in the marriage if you guys have one.

A user in another thread was saying the projected processing time at CSC is 7-8 months. Earliest I can file the N400 is October 29th, so that brings the processing time pretty close, not quite but almost.

What is the earliest filing date for N400?  Is it 3 years from date of marriage or 3 years from permanent residency (i.e. Green Card)?  I was thinking I had to wait until 3 years after my permanent residency, but now I'm wondering if it is 3 years from my marriage...

You can file 90 days before your third anniversary of becoming a permanent resident. If that makes sense.

For example my permanent resident third anniversary is Jan 26th 2018, so I can file October 29th.

You can use this USCIS early filing calculator to get the exact date you can file

Yeah, I'd seen that previously, but the N400 guide on VJ states it this way, that made me wonder

Generally, certain lawful permanent residents married to a U.S. citizen may file for naturalization after residing continuously in the United States for three years if immediately preceding the filing of the application the applicant has:

  · been married to and living in a valid marital union with the same U.S. citizen spouse for all three years
  · the U.S. spouse has been a citizen for all three years and meets all physical presence and residence requirements
  · the applicant meets all other naturalization requirements

Using the term "residing" doesn't necessarily require permanent residency.

I can see why that would be confusing. I've been "residing" in the United States for over 3 years already and obviously I'm just starting ROC now, so that wouldn't make any sense.

If you look at the Naturalization Eligibility worksheet on USCIS.gov. Page 2, number 3 it says "I have been a permanent resident for.." and if you follow the arrow to "less than 3 years" it says right there "you are not eligible for naturalization". Which is much more clear than what the guide on VJ is saying.

Yes I was sure the same thing  but re-reading it seems that they assume is green card no only residency
