Those are probably the judicial ceremonies where you are allowed to change your name.

Administrative ceremonies, where you aren't changing your name but are simply becoming a US citizen, occur more frequently (sometimes daily, depending on the field office).

Here're the upcoming oath ceremonies in Gainesville. http://www.votealachua.com/Outreach-Events Next one is on Jan 14th, looks like they hold ceremonies once a month.

Thank you, but that schedule is for 2016... My question is rather if this news will cause me to be delayed for a lot more than another month.

sorry my bad. didn't check the year but oath ceremony dates are all publicly available, they'll probably update the 2017 dates soon. Meantime check district court website if they have them posted there.

They introduced a new N400 back in April and all applicants who filed using the new form between April and, I believe, September, were getting IOE receipt numbers. I filed in May but using the old form, so I've got NBC number, and while my application took longer than I expected, but most of May applicants with IOE numbers still don't have their interviews scheduled.

Apparently they decided to process all new applications the old way at some point because of many issues with ELIS, so based on other tracking posts here, all applicants started to get NBC receipt numbers around September. My wife applied in October using new form, but got an NBC number.

No one can be sure, but it seems like they are processing all new applications using the old system, so you should be fine.

My husband applied with the new form on September 2 and got an NBC number, thank goodness. It sounds like we were right at the cutoff point when they stopped using IOE numbers. His interview is scheduled for next week (Dec 15), so hopefully it will continue as planned...

I have an IOE case number and was just scheduled for interview on first week of January few days ago.

I'm in a similar situation. I have an IOE case number, I was approved at my Nov. 8 interview, and my oath ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 16. The oath ceremony notice was dated Nov. 28.

I received a letter saying that our oath ceremony on Dec. 15 was canceled and would be rescheduled, I'm guessing because of USCIS's big screw up. Anyone have a clue as to when this would likely happen? Before Jan. 20th?? :ranting:

Ooh. I hope I don't get a letter like that, but it sounds like I probably will.

Because of personal preferences (let's not get into a political discussion), I really want to become a US citizen while Obama is still president. I hope that can still happen.

Hi Okramango- My husband applied for citizenship during the same time and received NBC number and his biometric was scheduled on Oct 4th but after that we haven't heard anything back. Good for you that everything is scheduled so far.

I just hope this new glitch in background thing will not affect anything.

A lot of people who applied in September for naturalization have not received interview notices yet, so don't worry too much at this point. You can follow this thread for people who applied in September to see where everyone is in the process.

It probably also depends on the office that is processing the case and how busy they are. I see you and/or your husband are also from Nepal :) Good luck!

Thank you Okramango. I have one more question for you, so I am right now in H1B, for me to get the green card through him what is the steps do you know?

I am getting multiple inputs-

Do I have to apply for separate paperwork once his citizenship is approved?

Or I should get greencard with him in this process?

I am not sure what is your status right now.. let me know if you have know about this

Are you in a rush to apply before he is a US citizen? While he is a green card holder the waiting time is 2-3 years. When he is a US citizen it will take up to 8 months. You need AOS. I copied it from another source

H-1B and Marriage

In the time spent in the U.S. while on an H-1B, its very possible to have met someone and fallen in love. If you are on an H-1B visa, and youd like to marry a U.S. citizen, the process will be relatively easy.

The H-1B is one of the few visas that allows for dual intent. This means that even though you are considered to be a nonimmigrant, it is acceptable for you to seek immigrant status. Nonimmigrant status is designated to foreign nationals who are to remain in the U.S. for only a short period of time. Immigrant status is designated to foreign nationals who become permanent residents of the U.S

Marriage to a U.S. citizen allows you to get immigrant status. A Green Card through marriage can be obtained through the following forms:

Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative

Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status.

Your U.S. citizen spouse files Form I-130 on your behalf and you file Form I-485. You can file at the same time. Your spouse is your immediate relative, so concurrent filing, which means filing at the same time, is permitted.

Your current H-1B status will allow you to apply for a Green Card while remaining with your spouse in the U.S.
