Hi there, I'm looking for information from people who have successfully obtained a SC drivers license after immigrating with a K-1 visa. DMV rules are very specific to each state, hence my plea for SC responses. I was told today that if my fiance successfully passes the written and driving tests on the same day, he will have a valid SC license. If he does not pass, he will only be eligible for a beginner's permit which means he has to drive with supervision for 180 days before he can apply for a license. I'm stressing out a little since his profession requires the ability to drive. He is not coming from a country that has reciprocity.

Anyone with SC experience?

Thank you!

Hey!  I know its been quite some time since you posted this but I was wondering if you found an answer or if you can shed some advice from your own experience.  My now husband who came on a K-1 will be going to try and get his SC license soon and the people at the DMV are not helpful AT ALL!  Do you know if he will be able to take both tests in one day and leave with a SC license.  It is driving me nuts trying to figure out the process! haha.  TIA for any tips!

Hello I am also on the process of getting my driver's license. Which part of SC are you from?

We are from Greenville.  :) We are hoping to go next week to try and get my husbands license.  Hoping it is a smooth process!

We are from Sumter. But will probably apply at Columbia or Florence since I heard they know better. Goodluck!

Nice to see fellow South Carolinians! Wondering how it went for you all,  can you give an update? My fiance will be here next week,  dmv says his foreign DL is good for up to a year,  police dept says no....

I was able to call columbia dmv about that. They said your foreign driver's license is valid for 90days from the time you landed here in the US. Thus i was able to drive shortly. It's best if you call them again just to clarify. Sometimes some people have different answers which makes it so frustrating.
