Me and my fiancé got engaged last week November 24th. Now we're just preparing our papers and proofs for K1. Guys can you give us a tips on how to prepare things cos we're just doing it by ourselves without the help of an attorney. Can you share us your experiences on your journey. We would love to hear your stories and guidelines it will makes us more strong. Thank you. ☺

Congrats on your engagement! As the above poster said, definitely check the guides on this website, since the whole process is far too much for one person to generalize here. There are plenty of questions, answers, example forms, and region specifics that you can use. I'm in a same-sex relationship and our I-129F was recently approved with no issues, and we didn't have to do anything different, in case you were wondering :D I wrote an article that goes over the I-129F packet in general (your first step of the K-1 process) if you are interested. I'm not sitting here tapping my fingers together like Mr. Burns from the Simpsons thinking, "excellent, self promotion!!"- I'm only mentioning it because the motivation behind me writing it was to help people who do not know where to start and need a basic guideline, which sounds like your situation  That being said, totally check out everything visa journey has to offer, along with various other websites like ***removed*** and the USCIS page itself, which has instructions for the various forms you will have to complete. Once you're familiar, it won't seem too bad. The process will stress you out, but it's so worth it. Good luck and if you have specific questions that you cannot find answers to later on down the road, definitely ask them on there. Someone will be able to help you out :)

First, CONGRATS!!!

Second, Read up! Do your homework! This VJ website have TONS of information. but take it with a grain of salt. It's not an easy process BUT it's definitely NOT an impossible undertaking. It require BOTH of you to dedicate some parts of your days to make sure that your petition pack is perfect, legit, complete, and most importantly it must REALLY show that you two are in a relationship. I would suggest to load up on proof and never be afraid to elaborate and show how each of you feel about each other. Make it personal and have both of your thumb prints all over it. That's how we did ours.

Third, be patient and know that sometime it take 1 month to complete everything, EVERYTHING, and in some cases it takes 1 year. Be patient and make it fun.

Good luck. But seriously, READ UP!!!

You will be fine, i did my own paperwork and am waiting for the interview now. Of course with help from this website ALONE!

Just go through everything one step at a time, theres examples all over (here and youtube)

What took longer for me was to gather the evidence, so many pictures, etc..plus organizing it.

You will re write things more then once, it will happen so start now and little by little you will see yourself fixing this and that, which is normal since this is important!

Good luck, any questions feel free to message me.

Congrats Guys! I wish you the best in completing your forms. I learned the hard way trying to do the papers myself. I had to get a Attorney. I wish I would of had one from the start. It would of saved me a lot of trouble. I got a real good attorney who wasn't that expensive and really took the time to explain and guide me through the process. Good luck on your journey and PM if you need any info.

Hi, so we have started preparing all of the documents and I have come up with a question that I hope someone could help answer or provide some insight to.

She is transgender and goes by the chosen first name of Yukii, which is different than the name on her birth certificate and her Facebook account also uses this which is one of the main methods of communication for us. Should we add an extra page to explain this in our I-129F package?

I would add an extra page explaining this and I think you should be okay! I don't have experience in this particular situation though, so my only other suggestion is to start your own thread, which could make it easier for anyone who has experience to help you out :)
