Hi,

I entered the US on Nov 22nd with my K1. I have not applied for my SSN yet. We are planning to get married Monday (Dec 5th). Will this be a problem without my SSN?

And my next question, I was going to apply for my SSN the following day on the 6th. I see on the flowchart that you are supposed to apply, and then go back later after the marriage to change your name. Will I be able to apply and do the name change at the same time, since I'll already be married? I am hoping to avoid going there twice.

I believe there is an issue with your I-94 and K1 being in one name but you're trying to apply for SS# in a different name. I believe that is why it is suggested you apply for SS# prior to marriage and then go back and change your name.

You do not need a SS# to apply for a marriage license.

You can get an ssn after you got married and have your married name already in it. That's what I did but, it will also depend on the ssn office if they will accept and allow it. Mine took 3 weeks to arrive as they needed to confirm my current status with immigration.

Good luck :)
