We're preparing for our interview next month and I took out a W2 for a background check for my new company ... and have no idea where I put it. Can the tax transcript be used in place of the tax return and W2s or just the tax return? The verbiage confuses me on the letter. This W2 is from 2004 when I was 17 (20 now) ... but the letter says if we fail to bring everything on the list we'll be denied and I don't want to get denied b/c of this stupid W2.

:help::help::help:

Thanks!

Tax transcripts are actually preferred because they prove what the IRS has on record. In the case of missing W2 form(s) I would definitely go with transcripts.

i believe the requirement is only for the most recent year of taxes (whenever you filed). 2004 AFAIK should not be a requirement. The only *but* in this is if you are close to the poverty level, they may want further verification from past tax history.

:star: lal

The letter we got says we must have blahblahblah for the last three years.

I'm close to the poverty level (under for last year) but my mom is a cosponsor well above the poverty level.

Alright, so I'll just use my transcripts. Well, that makes my life easier.

can you obtain the 2004 transcripts? we have one office here in Tampa, actually its relatively close to the USCIS office. Maybe you could stop there a few hours prior to your interview?

I already have them :) I ordered them a long time ago, but thought the W-2s and returns were better (didn't know they preferred transcripts) and found them while looking for all the cards I sent him before we married (long distance within the US relationship :x)

Don't forget to include your 2006 return, with W-2s and all; otherwise you'll probably get an RFE for them (based on experience from last year)

I submitted it without the 2006 tax info, and we have the interview...I am assuming an RFE would come before our interview appt notice?

Funny..was just reading about transcripts online...

Requesting transcripts (individuals):

You have two easy and convenient options for getting copies of your federal tax return information--tax return transcripts and tax account transcripts--by phone or by mail.

Request transcripts by calling 1-800-829-1040, or order by mail using IRS Form 4506T (Request for Transcript of Tax Return). We do not charge a fee for transcripts. Allow two weeks for delivery.

Definitions:

A tax return transcript shows most line items from your tax return (Form 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ) as it was originally filed, including any accompanying forms and schedules. It does not reflect any changes you, your representative or the IRS made after the return was filed. In many cases, a return transcript will meet the requirements of lending institutions such as those offering mortgages and for applying for student loans.

A tax account transcript shows any later adjustments either you or the IRS made after the tax return was filed. This transcript shows basic data, including marital status, type of return filed, adjusted gross income and taxable income.

Can we submit the 2006 return if it is filed prior to submitting the Affidavit of Support? What exactly is a transcript? Are the federal forms that Quick Tax generates + the W2 OK?

If it's already filed, you should submit it. I didn't have 2006 tax info, so that's why I didn't send it.

I don't want to Highjack this thread....

My Question is.....

Im self employed and do a Schedule C every year. Do they go by "taxible Income or Adjusted Gross Income" for deducing whether you pass the Poverty Line or not?

The USCIS Kicked back our AOS and asked for more information on my Business & Income.

My Gross Taxible Income is $40,000 but by the time im done with expense & write offs for my Business, my Adjusted Gross Income is a Paltry $16,000.

Maybe I should get a Co Sponsor just in case? :(
