This is what we are trying to figure out. We called the county office (who has the original deed on record) and asked them. I would call your county office to talk to them about what is need for you in your state. They told me I could buy a new deed at an office supply store, and the only one I could find is the Quit claim deed too. So I don't know if this is it or not, but we need to figure it out before the interview. Anyone else know if we should us the Quit claim deed to add a spouse to the house title/deed?

I hired a real estate attorney about 10 years. It was worth the amount of money I paid because all I had to do was sign the paper and the lawyer handled the rest. I got the new deed in the mail, if I remember. At the time it was under 200 USD , so I do not know what they would charge now days.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Best advice is to talk to a real estate attorney - he/she can do this for you and it shouldn't cost very much. It can be done yourself, but it's worth the $75 (or whatever, plus filing fees which shouldn't be much) to get it right.

Your home is your number one asset (for most of us) - it's worth protecting..

Im not sure who holds your title if you still have a mortgage. I know I was free and clear, so maybe that is why the new deed was mailed to me. Yeah, best to call at real estate attorney and ask some questions.

When i did the Quit Claim Deed for our house i had to go to my register of deeds for the form. Filled in the information off my tax bill for property description, gave reason for change, ie: my new name and adding hubby. I did have one question that a local real estate attorney answered for free, which was cool!! All in all it cost less then $20 to have it done.

October 31, 2016 I-130 sent to Chicago Lockbox

November 4, 2016 Received text case sent to Nebraska

November 10, 2016 Received Hard copy of NOA1
