My fiance is coming! should I fly with him to enter the US?

I've heard some people say I should be with my fiance when he enters the country on the k1 visa. Is this really necessary? Is really not in the budget and I'm hoping it's something he can handle on his own. I've also heard not to book his connecting flight until he's here and gotten through customs. Any advice helping us through this last hurdle would be really! appreciated

No need for you to come 100% your choice.

I would not wait on connecting flight. Price will be very high if you purchase a flight for that day or next day.

Thank you Jim!

So if the connecting flight is online an hour after arrival would that be enough time you think? I appreciate your answer

No way.

He needs more time. I would give 3 hours minimum.

He will need to process through immigration and customs.

They may haul him off to a back room to interview him as it will be his POE.

Then he may have a possible luggage inspection.

i got through with a 1hr45m from landing to poe to getting on my next flight. I do not recommend that because it all depends how the CBP officer is or how busy it can be when arrived. Really had to run for my next flight, barely made it in time. Go for 2+ hours!

I echo what others have said:

- no need to fly with him to POE. I think people do this when their fiances have never traveled internationally before and/or speak poor English, as an airport can be an overwhelming place for someone who has never really navigated one and who can't properly communicate with airport staff. If he's traveled internationally before, he'll know what to do when he lands in the US ... same basic process as any time you fly to a different country really.

- buy the flights together

- I agree with 3+ hours for the layover. He might get lucky and breeze through immigration and customs, but it's really better safe than sorry. It's not a big deal to have to wait around the airport for a couple of extra hours, but it's very stressful to miss a flight and have to get rebooked.

Like others have already mentioned, no it's up to you. However in my mind it is an important event in both of your lives that you can experience together. Granted you can't go through the same line with him at immigration. But it may help both of you feel more relaxed about the whole ordeal. To each his/her own, but nervously waiting is not my cup of tea. Congrats and best wishes!

I've heard some people went together to the US Citizen line instead of the immigration by themselves.

Can someone confirm that? I was really expecting that my fiancé would go back with me to be present for the POE.
