Hi JFH do we have to file for the greencard after we got the passport? If so how can we do it from outside the U.S. In some sight i saw that you have to file for the green card before coming to U.S. Is it true.

When you arrive at the airport in the USA, your visa will automatically become a green card. So you don't need to file anything. It happens automatically and the CBP officer will update the system to show you have arrived and are now a green card holder.

But you do have to pay a fee for this. Currently it's $165 but it will increase next week to $220. You can either pay it before you go or after you arrive. But they won't make a plastic green card for you until you've paid.

So, when you get your passport back from the embassy after the interview, do they ship it back to the current home address, or do you have to stick around in the city of your interview? My husband doesn't live in Montreal, so just trying to figure out what he'll need to do. And about how long does that normally take, for Montreal?

Looking at the Montreal embassy website, they use DHL to get the passport back to the applicant:

https://ca.usembassy.gov/visas/family-immigration/approval-denial/

In London at my interview, the man had a plastic courier sack with my file and he completed the address details for it whilst I stood at the desk.

Okay, so it sounds like he'll just be able to list his Toronto address. I do see on a link from that website, though, that you can use a Pick Up Location at Canada Post Office, which is a free service. It doesn't really specify if it's, like, the one nearest the embassy, or if it's your local post office, though.

There will be a paper inside the envelope with your passport with the website where you can pay. You need the reference number from the actual visa - I wanted to pay it before I got the visa back to get it done but it's not possible until you have the visa in hand.

Can't stop looking at my visa - it finally feels real that I'm going HOME to my husband and never have to leave him at an airport again! Just wish I had given the embassy a better photo of me for the visa. I look thoroughly fed up in my picture. But I said to my friend: 'that is the face of a woman who has spent 10 months doing this paperwork!'

Both are true. It depends how many people are waiting for interviews in Juarez and they also schedule the appointments at the end of one month and the beginning of the next. So at the end of December/beginning of January they will set the February appointments. Depending on how many people are waiting in Juarez he might get one or he might have to wait for the next round of appointments scheduled at the end of January/beginning of February.

Thank you! I'll try to patiently wait until our interview is assigned lol
